Hi, I'm in a pretty bad situation after an upgrade and was hoping someone could help. I have an X200s which came with Windows Vista 64-bit Pro. Recently I did a Win 7 Pro clean install using the upgrade cd from Lenovo, which would only allow a 32-bit upgrade. Afterwards I ran into major problems:

    - the machine doesn't recognize the wireless adapter ThinkPad 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II. I've tried to install drivers from both Lenovo and the manufacturer Realtek, but neither work. Lenovo's site says the driver works for Win7 32/64, but when I run setup I get "cannot install on this system".

    - Speed is much slower than Vista. Nearly impossible to run 2-3 programs at a time.

I have an X200s with 3GB RAM, Intel2Duo CPU 1.86ghz processor, 120GB SSHD. I'm thinking of the following two options:

    1) All my former files were saved in a Windows.old folder during the upgrade. Any way to use these to revert back to Windows Vista with all my old programs? I did the upgrade because it was running slow, but in this state Win 7 is just worse somehow.

    2) Can I completely format my computer and use the Win 7 upgrade cd from Lenovo to do a brand new install? I don't want to wipe my machine and then end up not being able to use the cd because it's not an "upgrade".

My warranty expired a while back, so Lenovo may not want to help. I'd really appreciate any advice -- at my wit's end here :(

I'd like to follow the instructions, but I've already done the install so I can't go back and retrieve everything. Thanks for the input though.

You can't go from 32 bit to 64 or back. There's no upgrade path for it, which probably why it did not work.

I'm not sure if the Lenovo disc will work as I've never seen one. A Microsoft upgrade disc will work, but I don't know if they're the same. I suspect not, but that's not based on any concrete evidence. I'd suggest downloading a Windows disc in the Windows forum and starting anew, after you've retrieved you files. If you wipe the drive, your old files will be gone. Keep that in mind.
