Just tossed in a X25M 80GB solid state drive and I'm still amazed at the speed of this thing.

When adding solid state drives be sure to re-install Windows 7 such that it can properly align the drive to ensure maximum performance.

Only problem I am facing is the really dim screen. I haven't used my X61S much nor do I usually use it at max brightness but the screen is REALLY dim. Is this a win7 issue or is it just because I don't have the right drivers?

I don't remember the screen being this dim before, I'm not sure it will be usable outside at all.

I really have not used my laptop much since I purchased it, but could it be that the back light is suddenly going bad? or is this a windows 7 issue? It seems to me the screen used to get 2-3x as bright as it does now.

Windows 7 (at least on my T400) has problems adjusting the backlight. Most of the time it works perfectly, but every once and a while I am unable to adjust it and the control for it disappears in the Windows power manager.

My guess is that yours is in a dim state, and it's stuck like that because of this issue. Are you able to change the backlight at all?

Yes I did, Apparently plugging in the power restores the screen brightness until it goes to sleep again the next time, then it stays dim?
