what is your experience so far? I've thought that windows 7 wouldn't require so many driver installations, or do it automatically, but there are quite some driver installations to do on 7.
what's your take?

Always do a clean install. I never use System Update or Windows Update.

you can do a clean install then use system update/windows update. it's not an "either or" thing
it does come with more drivers, but they may only be basic drivers. also, lenovo drivers have the "Enhanced Experience" thing built-in -
I don't understand the connection to a clean install. what I've meant is that I'm going to install W7 on a clean computer, and then I was wondering what is the best way to install the drivers.
maybe I should just use system update and then uninstall it. -

First pass just use system update. You get most of your needs. The ThinkVantage stuff install yourself. Also the monitor driver and video card driver install manually. You can go through the driver list for your model after the System Update. ITs pretty smooth except for the Bluetooth and the flaw with Password Manager but there are fixes and workarounds for those issues.

I'll be the Devil's Advocate ... why "manually" install video drivers?
Is there some sort of paper trail of video problems after auto-installing that make manual installing a no-brainer?
Or is this just a myth that has been perpetuated over time?

I just hate the window update pop up telling me I have 10 minutes , 1 hour or 4 hours until system restarts. -
Ya, you turn off automatic updates (installing). Or kill the update process.

Win7 on X200 - install drivers manually or use SU?
