From what I can tell, the upgrade path works fine (i.e. no need to downgrade to Vista first), and it moves all of your files to Windows.old. My question is - will I have to reinstall all of my applications?
(also, kindof offtopic, but are a lot of people experiencing stability issues, or just a select few?)

You will have to do a clean install -

Yeah, what I heard is that the only people that'll be able to do an upgrade are Vista users. Win7RC, XP and 2000 folks have to do a clean install.
My question is will Lenovo give us upgrade-qualified folks a version of Win7 that can be used for a clean install (rather than simply to upgrade Vista)? Having experienced an MS "upgrade" snafu many times before I am planning to scrub Vista altogether and start from scratch. -
I am pretty sure when you do an "upgrade" from your existing Vista install, you get an option to either "upgrade from" or a "clean install". That is what I expect. I too will be choosing a clean install, with my upgrade.

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll try the W7 upgrade in Oct then.

no, the OP is right. you can upgrade from the RC. it'll put your files into Windows.old.

I know for a fact that you can upgrade 7RC to the RTM or final. I'm not saying it is a good idea, just that it can be done. You just have to edit the edit the cversion.ini and it will upgrade.
Here is the info:

you can probably upgrade granted you purchased the FULL version of win7. if you purchased an upgrade version dont expect to be able ot upgrade from win7 RC.
