    Hey folks,
I'm just preparing myself to upgrade to windows 7 32bit home premium from vista. I have the upgrade disk and want to do a clean install. I've reinstalled xp before but never dealt with Lenovos configurations.
As you can see from the picture my T400 came with three partitions.

I've made a recovery disk on CD's but what do i do now? Can I delete the Q and S partitions? Should I do it before installing windows 7 or will 7 format the entire hard drive or just C drive and the Q and S will remain?

whats weird is when i right click each partition, the format option is only available on the Q drive.
I know this is pretty basic for most of you, but can someone explain to a non tech guy like me?
    cheers.

The Windows 7 setup has a point where you can delete all the partitions and then create a single partition for the install. You don't need to do anything before that.

Sorry that your picture did not show up here so I can only make a guess.
If I am right, other than C partition which is pre-loaded with the Vista, the other 2 are loaded with lenovo's recovery image, drivers and utilities. I suggest don't change anything unless you are quite sure to do so.

Besides, I don't think you are able to perform a "clean" install with the "upgrade pack" from lenovo.
All you can do is upgrade the existing vista 32-bit to Windows 7 32-bit, with all the softwares existing currently, and any other configurations(partitions, for instance) untouched.

Do you have a Windows 7 product key with the upgrade pack? If so, I think you can perform a clean install by using a Windows 7 "INSTALL DISC"(not Upgrade Disk) and the product key as well. You can download the ISO file from the internet and burn your own Windows 7 home premium install disc. You can also switch to 64-bit if you wish, which is impossible when you make an "upgrade install". The ISOs are literally everywhere...
I am not quite sure about this theory :p

    Edited----------------
Oops, I wandered around and found out maybe I was wrong.
It IS possible to do a clean install with the upgrade disk, while clean install with upgrade product key is NOT valid...
    Please follow this thread.

If this is true, who will buy the full-versions? Quite confused...

Yes I have the windows 7 upgrade disk, still haven't opened it yet. :D It is very confusing how we can do a clean install instead of just upgrade. I had no idea until a few days ago. Why microsoft doesn't make this clear, who knows.
My hard drive has 3 partitions. 2 Lenovo installed recovery and utilites. Since I made a backup disc on 12 cds I assume its now ok to delete these partitions? I just want to make sure if I delete them , my T400 will still function without any problems.

heres a good site i found yesterday about dhow to do a clean install of windows 7.
