I am planning to buy Y550-418444U online through Lenovo website.

Will I still be eligible for free Windows7 upgrade in October 09 or is it only through stores like BB & Frys?

I believe that they show if you are eligible, but I know that Thinkpads are, so Ideapads should be as well.

It depends which version of Vista you buy, also. According to Lenovo, Windows Vista Basic (32-bit) is the only version they sell that will NOT be eligible for upgrade to Windows 7.

NOTE - This is not REALLY free as the company contracted by Windows charges ~$30 USD to ship !!

Yet on Lenovo site they don't mention this at all and even wholesalers and suppliers don't seem to mention this.

Lenovo is not the one responsible for the shipping, it is Microsoft, whom probably told Lenovo very little detail.
