So I switched to 7 on the weekend (7050) and it's overall pretty good stuff so far. I have a few issues though, maybe you guys can help.

The Power Manager GUI wont open, I installed it after the basic Vista power management gave me 2.25hrs on a full charged 9-cell. As well the fan seems to stay on max at all times, so the CPU probably isn't throttling.

Then I can't get sound from the speaker port on my ultrabase, built in speaker is fine. Fingerprint isn't working, but I don't really mind at this point. Tried the above drivers but no luck (I'm running 64bit).

I have been using 7 on my R61i since December with no problems what so ever :)

The only minor thing is that the GUI flickers every now and then.

Running x64-7068 Ultimate; I wonder about the CPU throttling issue, as well. It seems that the fan is on more often, but then again, I was installing Win7 at the time!

Lenovo has an APS driver for Win7 on their site, but what else are people installing (driver/ThinkVantage-wise) and, more importantly, WHICH version are you installing - Vista (x32 or x64) or other "beta" drivers? I tried installing the "Hotkey" driver and it was a no-go - I'll look up the exact drivers I installed and update this post so maybe somebody can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Overall, the Build is stable - WiFi & networks have no problems, Trackpoint was installed at the get-go - I'm very happy.

UPDATED: I actually re-read the entire thread and found out that I FUBAR'd my driver install; I had to reformat and clean install the Beta (x64-7068). Then, as "aadadams" so helpfully pointed out, I installed the most current Vista System Interface driver in "Vista SP2 compatibility" mode, running as Admin - it went without a hitch.

When I tried installing the Vista "Hotkey" driver in the exact same way, I got an error saying something to the effect that it couldn't update my registry, but then the ultimate message was that it installed fine?!?!

I'm finally seeing the volume/speaker changes "onscreen", but I don't see any numbers or onscreen display when changing screen brightness - since I've never had a Thinkpad before, and I put on this Beta literally after only having turned on my computer 2 times, is this normal? Or should I be seeing an onscreen display for brightness?

FYI: The only drivers I installed were the APS (Win7-beta driver), System Interface (Vista), and Hotkey (Vista) drivers.

What are you guys using for a video driver for the x200? I had noticed pretty terrible acceleration on the built in drivers, so I changed to the latest Intel drivers. Now it's way better for hardware accel, but it crashes a lot. G45 is the chipset in the x200 right?

    Hi Everyone,

I just got myself x61t. Trying to do a clean install of windows 7 build 7077 32bit. Everything works but I can't get the tablets buttons to work. I've tried installing the tablet button driver and tablet utility drivers but it still doesn't work. It also doesn't rotate to portrait when I tilt the screen into tablet mode. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

I have 7077 on my X41 tablet. It works great! I had to download the WIndows 7 preview drivers from Upek, and an patch to replace a file (unfortunately it's not listed on the site directly and i lost the URL - filename is enroll.zip and replaces the enroll.exe file which comes with the driver package).

Only thing I noticed was that somehow the on-screen display for volume and such gets magically uninstalled or whatnot (keys do still work, but there is just no more info displayed on screen).

For the Video drivers I downloaded the very latest XP drivers. The drivers Intel suggests for Win 7 and the ones that come with the Windows update work fine for 2D, but have no 3D acceleration. With the latest XP drivers I was perfectly able to play Neverball and TuxRace with the accelerometer :)

Love it so far, didn't expect Win 7 works so well on this old machine. Can't wait until I get my SSD on monday.

EDIT: Here is the link for the enroll.exe file I was talking about. Replace the original enroll.exe in program files\protector suite.

Besides OSD everything works fine for me on 7077. I heared previous builds had problems though, hardware is definitely not too old. It works very well besides some minor glitches. IE Fingerprint reader won't work now and then and you have to disable and enable the hardware in the device manager manually.

I've Windows 7 build 7057 on my X60s, and it works well. I notice some display corruption in Excel, where the cells are graphically misplaced and distorted. I also cannot get OSD to work. But the overall impression and performance is great. When RC is released I'll consider installing it on the T42 I'm not using anymore.

I'm doing a quick reinstall on W7 cuz of buggy video drivers, was wondering if you guys installed the ACPI Power management drivers with your W7 installs?

OSD for Volume and Sound work on mine, but getting them to work is trial and error. The easiest way is to uninstall the Hotkey driver and the System Interface driver. Reboot. Re-install. Reboot. Then they should work. Also confirm in your driver properties that you have an On Screen Display Tab and that OSD is enabled (right click on your desktop, go to "Screen Resolution", click on "Advanced Settings" and the last tab should be the "On Screen Display" tab.

In my device manager I see 2 devices without a driver.

    1. PCI Simple Communications Controller. I searched and found that it is the Intel AMT driver. I tried installing, but I instantly got an error stating that my OS was not supported.
    Anybody know about this?

The other is the Verizon WWAN, but I think I can handle this on on my own.

Ok, actually the Verizon software won't work right either.

So basically the 2 things I mentioned.
    I am using 64 Bit with a T400.

no idea about the wwan but you can go into bios and disable intel AMT, it's not required.

    Thanks goofball,
What exactly is the AMT anyway? What does it do?

    Hi!

I have T400 and going to install W7 soon. I read this post and just want to check my understanding of situation:
    1. If I have no reason to get 64bit version I must install 32bit.
    2. But with 32bit I won't have 4Gb of RAM to work like with WinXP32 which I have now (but only 3.5Gb max).
    3. Graphic adapters switching will work fine and without system reboot (like in Vista, but not like in XP) if I'll install all needed drivers.
    4. I will get much faster system boot and logging off than in XP (boot is not so long now, but Vista was faster; logging off is very-very boring long now, on fresh WinXP install).
    5. Some drivers will install with automatic WU search and other I'll need to download and install manually. So, I see that I need to get newest VISTA drivers and install them ONLY in Vista comp. mode.
    6. After installing I'll need to check such things working like OSD (especially brightness control), indicators (especially WiFi led), hotkeys, graphic switching, audio (especially headphones port) and fingerprint.

I will thankful if anybody can reply my post with any suggestions or remarks!

P.S. Why did the discussion stop on May'09? Everybody solved their problems and nobody had new? :)

    (1) Not sure of your question here? Since only 64bit and 32bit versions exist, then by definition you have to chose one or the the other.
    (2) If you have 4GB of ram, then you have a reason to choose the 64bit version
    (3) A beta switchable graphics driver for Win7 hasn't yet been released (AFAIK). I believe you can switch via BIOS still. I expect this will be remedied well before October 22nd.
    (4) That's going to be true of pretty much any fresh/clean install.
    (5) Vast majority of drivers came in automatically. See here for the other stuff like Lenovo Power Manager and such. This link is in the sticky at top.
    (6) On my T400 all the LED's work, as do the hotkey controls, but I don't get the OSD. As above, graphics switching doesn't work yet as no driver has been released. This is still beta software.

Discussion in this thread stopped when people switched to using the sticky thread at the top of this forum. Look up.
