Hi all,
I've been using Windows 7 64-bit (build 7100) and have noticed that occasionally the Fn buttons stop working. Fn+F3 and Fn+F5 in particular (well, they're the only two I use).
I've found that the On Screen Display Service causes this, where it stops and cannot be restarted. Often even a restart does not fix it.
Has anyone else run into the issue? Any ideas of how to fix it?
Thanks

When this happens to me I usually just uninstall both the hotkey driver and Lenovo system management interface driver. Reboot. Reinstall both. Reboot and then they both typically work again (for me anyway).

this has been an issue for me ever since build 7000. ive used all the builds since that beta build and hoped the RC would fix the issue, but it hasnt.
ive even reinstalled the beta and this time i couldnt get it to work despite having it work back in January.
anyway, i know for a fact that this is a graphics driver issue. if you uninstall your driver and use vga for video, you'll have no problems.
furthermore, my problem is more than just a hotkey problem. i cant get my brightness to work properly; it doesnt go all the way down to completely dim like it did with vista and on build 7000. this does get fixed if you uninstall the graphics driver. -
I have this same problem on my x200T. "0" brightness on Win7 seems to be about the same as "6" brightness on Vista (out of a possible 15). In reality, anything below this point is largely unusable unless the room is pitch black, but I still preferred the wider range of control.

I was hoping that the problem would be somewhat fixed with the RC, but I guess we're not that lucky.
However, it is better in that if I restart (I usually only use sleep mode), then I can control brightness again. But if I put my computer back into sleep mode, then it doesn't work anymore (thankfully it's set at a level I can tolerate, and it also doesn't seem to go as bright as the beta did, which is good).
Oddly, when it doesn't work, the on screen indicator comes up, but when I can change the brightness, then there's nothing that comes up.
I also had a problem opening the wireless menu (Fn + F5) once, but that seems to have passed.
Hopefully we'll get an updated OSD (with some nicer graphics than bright green pixellated crap). -
yeh i know you do jon. ive already complained about it a few months back and you mentioned it.
its annoying not having everything perfect... i considered switching back to Vista...
yes this is another thing that annoys me. anytime it goes to sleep, you cant change brightness after you resume from sleep; the onscreen menu appears as you mention but the brightness doesnt change. -
Hmm. I guess I should be grateful that I don't have the issues you all are
I've just put a link to Fn+F5 in the start menu for now, as thats the one I make use of.
