I'm thinking about doing a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro using a Microsoft "Retail" disc, and not a Lenovo-based recovery partition or recovery disk. I mainly want to eliminate the Lenovo partitions and bloatware, especially since I chose the 128 GB hard drive. The Windows 8.1 ISO image does not appear to be publicly available via Digital River like Windows 7 is (not sure why not), but it is available to Microsoft Partners and on torrent sites.

    My main concerns are:
    1) Will it activate? Will it ask for a key?
    2) Can all the essential Lenovo software be installed? (Drivers, Update utility, etc)

Any advice or past experience is greatly appreciated.
