I am curious about other ThinkPad owners' Windows Experience Index score. I have a brand new T510 with the discrete graphics and I have a Windows Experience Index of 4.9 due to the lowest score being my Graphics performance.

Can I ask other ThinkPad users (not just 510 owners necessarily) what their Windows Experience Graphics score is? I'm thinking that if my discrete graphics scores a Windows Experience graphcis number similar to the integrated (Intel) GPU, then I shouldn't have chosen the discrete version of the T510.

    Any input appreciated.

I have a T400 with switchable graphics. With integrated graphics I get a 3.4, with dedicated graphics I get a 4.7. Honestly though, there isn't that much of a noticeable difference unless you're gaming IMO.

I have a R400 (brand new - less than 2 months old after unit replacement) and the WEI score for it is 3.4.

My machine has the x4500 integrated graphics and the lowest score is due to the graphics performance.

Btw, I deliberately choose (for most laptops I buy) the integrated option because (1) it ends up be slightly cheaper (2) no work I do demands a higher powered discrete graphics options (3) I don't game on the machine.

Edit: Thought I should add the scores:

    Processor 6.0
    RAM 5.9
Graphics 4.1 (Desktop performance for Aero)
Gaming Graphics (3D Business and Gaming graphics performance) 3.4
Primary Hard Disk (Disk data transfer rate) 5.9

Given what you've posted, how is the Aero performance with the integrated adapters?

I have, thus far, not experienced any problems whatsoever (or at least none that have attracted my attention). All the bells and whistles seem to be as snappy as that on my friend's more recent T410 with the discrete option. I think the move from the x3100 to the X4500 made the difference - though I should add that on my previous machine (Acer 5920 with the x3100 option running Vista Pro), I did not notice a problem either.

My T61 has a WEI score of 3.1, like most it's mainly down to the graphics chip I have onboard. In full it's:

    CPU - 6.1
    Memory - 5.9
    Graphics - 3.5
    Gaming Graphics - 3.1
    Primary Hard Disk - 7.7

I don't PC game myself so is quite happy with my T61. I also don't notice any lag or such when using Aero effects on my Intel X3100 chip.

SO JabbaJabba what made you decide to get both the T500 and R500 all at once? I always thought you were a ultraportable fanatics, so does the T500/R500 lend well to your roadwarrior lifestyle? why did you skip W500?

You're right. I am an ultraportable geek. But I also appreciate a good ThinkPad DTR.

I actually just sold the R500, so only left with the T500. The T500 is obviously far from ultraportable, but I do appreciate the extra performance for the occasional 3D game and most importantly the extra screen real estate with high res. The W500 was never part of the evaluation process as the graphics and CPU is basically the same. Didn't want to go WUXGA either, although I know you could get the W500 with WSXGA+ as well.

For my traveling needs, I still use the X-series. One tends to take the X-series for granted after you get use to them. However, you really learn to re-appreciate the weight and nimbleness when you've been working on a T500 for a few hours.

R500 and the X61 or X200 certainly forms a contrast... after carrying around X61 and X200 around, it was a real pain in the rear having to carry around R500 for a day or two.

I have the same numbers as JabbaJabba, except the CPU is rated 6.2 (C2D P8700). Makes logical sense, since the rest of our specs are identical.

Yes. The only difference would be that my Intel SSD is 160GB but there does not seem to be any performance difference between the 80GB and 160GB version, which your numbers confirm as well.

Btw MidnightSun, could you post your idle temps for both CPU and ATI GPU using i.e. HWMonitorPro?

I remember reading that a firmware update improved the performance on the 160GB SSD over the 80GB SSD based upon the design of the drives.

Interesting. Just did a quick search and stumbled over a few threads mentioning that the 160GB version is a little bit faster at write speeds. But apart from bragging rights I doubt I will feel the benefits of the additional write speed :)

I have a T61p with a mechanical Disk. The processor is a T7800, 2.6 Ghz machine. The scores are:

    Processor: 6.3

    Memory Operations per second: 5.9

    Graphics: 5.7

    Business and gaming graphics: 6.3

    Primary Hard Disk: 5.5

Thinkpad X201 - spec in sig

    Base: 3.9
    Processor: 6.9
    Memory: 5.9
    Graphics: 3.9
    Gaming Graphics: 5.1
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.9

I'm a tiny bit unhappy with my memory score. I do wish I had a screenshot from my X41's WEI score list - it was a sea of 1's and 2's. There may have even been a 0.x in there Comparitively, I cannot complain in the slightest about my new mobile "Work" station.
