I have had my Y580 for a while now. I sent it in for a repair not too long ago, and when it came back I did a clean install. Ever since then, whenever I'm on battery, i cant watch videos (AVI,MP4,etc,,) with windows media player without lag or stutters or sometimes the program simply stops responding. I never had this problem before. I've tried "uninstalling and reinstating" wmp using the windows features menu, but it doesn't make any difference. Is there a way to more completely uninstall and re-install wmp? It doesn't feel clean. I should also mention that VLC works just fine on battery, so I don't think its a hardware problem. Both work as expected on AC. Obviously, I could just use VLC as my main media player, but it doesn't feel as good or as aesthetic to me. Any Ideas?

Power savings on the battery maybe too aggressive. Try changing your power plan to "high performance" using Lenovo Energy Management software.

I have it set to "dynamic graphics" all the time, although I have heavily modified that power plan to more closely resemble "balanced". I just keep it on dynamic so that it can throttle up when i game and I don't like to switch back and forth all the time. I'll play around with the plan settings a little more to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the response.

Ok. Through a series of trial and error, I think I've narrowed it down a little. I believe it's a conflict with lenovo's energy managment utility.

I did a repair install of windows to no avail, but did notice that the lag was gone when it started up in the "balanced" power plan. In fact, there seems to be no lag with any of the standard power plans; only when set to "Dynamic Graphics" do i begin to see stuttering and freezing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software which also restored the defaualts, but the problem still persists. not sure what the difference is, but looks like I'll be switching back and forth from now on. Dynamic when I game; Balanced every other time.

    Any solutions I'm missing?
