I've been googling, looking on this site, and I can't seem to find any info on this.

Windows 7 just informed me the other day of an optional update (title of thread). Where can I find more info on this?

I'm generally a guy who installs nearly every update, but I don't want some useless thing that messes up my current display settings.

I tried to install it the other day and tried to install other updates as well, but ThinkVantage System update utility always make it ty experience by freezing my laptop at Win7 boot up logo.

So, while I wanted to install it, I had to revert back to get my machine up and running again.

It just updates the Hardware ID profile for your LCD monitor under Windows 7. While it is optional I install this update myself and it's fine, it didn't mess my graphics profile or such.

I was checking it out and it's actually newer than the version no Lenovo.com right now. They probably submitted it to Microsoft recently but didn't update their site yet as they usually push a bunch of updates all at once. The one on Lenovo.com is 4.34 for the monitor INF but this one 4.35.

NOTE- Microsoft doesn't make drivers, IHVs (hardware vendors or OEMs) send their drivers to Microsoft to be WHQL certified and signed, a process they pay for. So if it's on Windows Update then it's been deemed worth by OEMs and Microsoft for MASS consumption as WH is pushed to everyone. Drivers on the OEMs sites are WHQL'd also so both are good, just not every single version is pushed out to Windows Update.
