For 3 weeks or so I've been experiencing a very annoying problem on my t61p.

I get the message to restart my computer to finish installing important updates. When I go to restart, it takes a few minutes to shut down, then a few minutes to fully boot, then a final automatic reboot and finally shows a message along the lines of:

"unable to install selected updates, reverting changes..."

then the process repeats, with another slow restart.

It seems then when I go back online, my computer starts downloading the same updates again and process repeats.

I keep my laptop switched on most of the time, hence why I've survived so long. But every now and again I need to restart quickly... so I need to find a way to fix things. Hopefully without needing a fresh vista installation.

    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Cheers

    Do you have SP1 installed?

i had this problem before my clean install. i fixed it by going to the update manager and seeing what updates failed. so i did a little testing and installed one at a time with reboots in between. i narrowed it down to the problem update and skipped it.
