I've been researching the X300 series of Lenovo notebooks and really want to do a clean install.
I've heard the downgrade disc Lenovo supplies is still bloated with software (if someone could verify this that would be fantastic) but I'd still prefer to use it rather than paying for a XP license. Is there any way to do a clean install with the Lenovo supplied XP license?
If anyone has performed a clean install on a Lenovo X300/X301 I'd love to hear about it.
Cheers.

The recovery discs restore your machine to it's factory state. You cannot use them to do a clean install. For that you'll need a Windows disc. There's nothing outside of the norm about doing a clean install on a X301, my opinion of course.

Go to MSFN. They have the information to build an OEM bios locked preactivated XP install disk with all of the service packs and patches slipstreamed in. There is a learning curve, and you really need to force yourself to actually read--rather than 'skim' the material. The only bad thing about it is that you can lose yourself for weeks on that site. Lots of very interesting stuff there.
