Hi Rogerspass,
good idea, havent think of it yet, even if its so simple (but simple things are always best as we all know)).
Thanks for the tip.
btw. is you brightness controll working? Mine is working only during the boot time of the windows, when fully booted, it stops working, so its clearly nvidia problem, will have to try diff. driver.
-
No dice. Brightness control still does not work in os, but it did work during boot as you said. Another things that I am worry about is the output to projector. Since Fn+F7 didn't work, I didn't know if there is better quick way to switch it. Cheers~ -
Hi,
i think mine fn+f7 is working, i'lll have chance to prove it tomorrow in work. Will let you know.
-
as i reported, mine fn+f7 key is working and switching the screen from notebook to dataprojector, i gave ti try this morning and it worked for me.
Do you have the "presentation director installed"? i wrote about it couple posts above. After i installed it it works as it should... -
hi folks
this thread and some others helped me a lot getting xp 64 fully functional working on my t61. thank you a lot !
now i hope i can give you something back. i found the solution to get brightness control work - well, for the Nvidia FX 570M and NVS 140M
1. deinstall the driver you have already installed
2. go to: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16344
and download the driver.
3. extract the file to a temp folder.
4. now the important thing: download the modded .inf file from laptopvideo2go.com here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/155series/15683_winxp64/nvlt.inf
5. copy it into the temp folder where you extracted the drivers. overwrite the existing nvlt.inf
6. exe setup - install the drivers - reboot - be happy !
for the flickering screens: i noticed this on other drivers. some drivers change de screenfrequency. check the advanced display settings - there it should be on standard 60hz.
edit: -
Hi dmg,
thanks for the tip, working like a charm, i dont know how i could overlook the availability of the modded inf files for download, i think i'm blinded :.)
I did as you supposed only i tried newer driver (174.74) here:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18051
where i also downloaded the modded inf file.
Now the brightness controll the fn+home / end work perfectly when OS is fully loaded.
cool, thanks for tip :.) -

SUCCESS!!
finally after many months, I found the proper x64 Atheros wireless drivers that I was looking for. The standard drivers that can be found on the lenovo and most other driver sites will install the driver for the card, but it won't be able to find any networks. The page is:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atheros.htm
and the driver is the newest (7.6.0.224) in the x64 column under Atheros AR5xxx Serie.
This package includes both driver and atheros control utility (which means you can disable microsofts WirelessZero driver in services).
You may now find that your boot time has increased tremendously. If that's the case, you have to disable the loading of a file called:
athgina.dll
I did it with sysinternals autoruns utility, but the registry entry is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Look for GinaDLL and delete it. Works for me. Now I can again enjoy my 23 sec. boot up
My wireless works nicely, although I have to use the Atheros Client Utility when searching for networks.
Allmost everything works in my system now. Only exclamation mark in device manager is my core 2 duo T8300, which shows up as Unknown device. Anyone has a solution for this?
to Helloo740: the installation of drivers doesn't care if you choose AHCI or Compatible. Changing mode after installation of windows is a bit tricky, that's why you can't boot. Are you installing XP x64? -
Thank krejniuk
I am installing regular xp.(not x64).
i installed everything that was on lenovo website for my r61i(7732) nothing showed up. NOTHING AT all(sound, network, video, abg, bluetooth, Nothing.) I still have yellow question marks next all of my drivers.
I read somewhere that u need to change it back to AHCI after installation of OS. but my window wont boot up in AHCI it gives me an error and restarts the computer.
I dont even have recovery disk to go back to vista, however i did make a backup drive on my external harddrive (using my lenovo's recovery software) but my computer doesnt boot up from my external hard drive.
I would love to have xp if not then i think i can live with vista too. but i dont see a way of going back to vista again. If you could help that would be great
thank a lot -
I had installed x64 Windows XP Pro on my T61 Thinkpad and had tough time to find graphic, audio and sound drivers. I loolk into Lenovo website and they most drivers are made for Vista x64. I would to find out where I can find required drivers. My Thinkpad system hardware is 2.4 GHz Duo Core 2, Quadro NVS 140M 512 MB and 2GB RAM memory. I hope you shred some light on me of this situation and thank you for advanced.

Hi everyone,
I am looking for audio, sound and graphic drivers for x64 XP Pro OS. I had tried drivers in Lenovo website and it didn't work. All x64 drivers are made for Vista. Also, I tried Nvidia website and they didn't have required graphic driver. My T61 ThinkPad system hardware is Intel 2.4 GHz Duo Core 2, Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M 512MB, 2GB RAM memory. I look forward to your response and you have nice day.

Hi all, Great job tracking down all those drivers. I was woundering if all of you could do two things.
1 - compile a sort of list, detailing your machine, along with a list of the devices you found for it (with links to the drivers), all in one post so that it would be easy for me and other users to find stuff
2 - could you rate how well your thinkpad is working relatively to when you were using xp 32 bit?
and thirdly how would you rate applications you use workign in 32 bit emulation mode? (slow?)
Cheers

Do you think it makes a difference if I use the newest one from the Intel site?
It did install for me (using nlite), but after install I could not get past a Stop Error BSOD. By the way, when I pick Safe Mode it does load a couple of files (quite a list actually) but then goes into the Stop screen, so it seems some registry setting might be all there is to it. Any idea?
(Of course, setting the BIOS to Compatibility makes it possible to start without the error.. but then it finds new hardware and installs IDE stuff..) -
I originally started this thread and all drivers i looked for are for R61 ntb. (viz my signature).
From your post, at least the graphic driver should work - look at the first page of this thread, there is link to it.
Anyway, the R and T series comes with more HW configs, so if you need help, you'd have to write down exact HW spec of your ntb.
You can give a shot to the drivers i and other ppl here found and posted here.
Anyway, i recommend, that if you're serious with xp x64, then read this thread from beginning, i think it would answer some of the questions you might have.
good luck & have fun -
Hi! helikaon. recently i have installed the x64 edition xp pro.( the version is somewhat similar like you, trying get all the speed i want). well, i'm not much a tech guy. so there are some issue i can't solve and i even got its(windows) screwed up a few time. but, at the end i still able to get the windows reinstalled and also able to find almost all the driver that i need for my Lenovo T61( CTO ). everything is fine, even i got screwed up a few time by installed some wrong drivers, and i still able to get it recover. ( i mean get it all work out, all drivers.) but the only thing is bothering me is what you mentioned on this one. the god **** sicken TPM. i tried to follow your step to solve the one and only problem i have here. but, i guess i'm too later to catch up. the website you posted is no longer working i think.P.S. you guys are awesome helpful
i'm not sure if this unknown device is really necessary to have the driver install or even to function. cause last time i checked its sort of relate to "ThinkVantage Client Security Solution 8.2 " then, i downloaded it and tried to install but, it won't work. ( oh by the way guys, despite the description that Lenovo put out on download and drivers website that the drivers is for XP or Vista. if you need a 64bit driver and you can't find it on XP. go for Vista 64 drivers. i don't know if work for you guys or not. but its works for me, i don't quite remember it is all or just most of the drivers i need are Vista 64bit even i running a XP 64bit. i found them are actually the same drivers.) anyway if anyone can post a link for how to get TPM fully install, i appreciate. oh also does anyone know how to get the "thinkvantage system update" work as well too? this question might being a little bit silly, i mean if it works then we don't have to search all over the web for all these time, just to find a single driver to install it. one last thing lenovo download and drivers website really sucking.
-
ok! i hope this can help you guys, cause im not sure about it. but, i kinda find that you guys are having the similar issue that i had b4. ok first of all, for all your the common drivers like audio, sound etc, except the graphic drivers. you can all just go for Vista x64 drivers, even you are running a XP x64. the drivers are actually the same. since Lenovo website don't have the XP x64 drivers.( no kidding that really works for my T61 6465cto, all the drivers succeed at installation.) and about the graphic drivers, i think you can try the Vista x64 drivers first if its doesn't work go for XP 32bit. and if doesn't either. you need to go to the related website and download the real XP x64 drivers, and don't forget to uninstall the drivers you installed for a try out b4. cause that's what bothering me for a day. i installed the vista x64, doesn't work then i installed xp 32bit doesn't work either. then i go to intel.com to download a real xp x64 drivers. but i was kinda stupid on this one, i did not uninstall all the try out drivers b4 i install the real xp x64 drivers, and that i almost got a crash on my system. so must careful with graphic drivers.

Hi lenovoocto,
sory for late answer, i was in India for 4 weeks (company stuff), was too busy to get check here. Is your trusted platform module (TPM) already working or not? If not, can you tell me where you got stuck? Were you able to download the *.msi install file from atmel website?
If i can help, i will - its not that hard to install this TPM stuff.
Do you still have some unknown devices in your device manager?
Anyway, i got new 7200rpm 320GB HDD for my laptop, so i plan to reinstall xp x64 on my ntb in close future and i'll try to update links here etc, since i'll go through it one more time

First of all: Hello folks!
helikaon: Thank you very very much for your passioned work and help on this topic! It really helped me to get this thing almost perfect up and running. My device manager is totally clean (yeah!), but...
And did you make any progress regarding the OSD?
These are the last missing features for a clean and perfectly running XP x64 on my T61p.
Once againg, thanks alot! -
Hello all, I see that it's been a few months since there was ant activity here so I don't know if the thread is still active or not but, I own a T60 and this thread helped me out a lot when I installed XP x64 on my laptop. Thank you to everyone who contributed. I'm sure that like the rest of you, I would love to see the OSD and hotkeys working on XP x64. I noticed that the files for the hotkeys are seperated in to the different program files folders (x64/x86). Does anyone know why? Could that be a factor in why it isn't working? Also, has anyone gotten Power Manager to recognize the battery because mine doesn't.
-
This post was so very useful, much appreciation to all.
Has anyone figured out the brightness adjustment hot keys ... ? When installing hotkeys driver, I was able to get access to all hotkeys except for the brightness adjustment. This is such an important hotkey for me, so I will be searching extensively, but if anyone has any information on this, it would be greatly appreciated !!! thanks -
I have the same problem with Soundmax Integrated HD audio driver with X64 xp pro. Something have a solution ?
-
Have you installed SP3? Should have the HD Audio in the package.
-
Gentlemen
Got the XPx64 installed (T61 7663-WDZ), bunch of thanks to all of you, the only drivers missing are the Bluetooth and the PCI Serial port - but I just didn't have time to take care of them. My biggest problem is: my microphone now does not work, external nor internal. Soundcard installed fine, except that error message that all of us were getting about HD Audio, I turned it off. This is a very big issue to me, please let me know if anyone else ran into the same problem...
Also - noticed that my F11 or ThinkVantage button no longer have an option to restore original Vista. I did not format the hidden partition and it is still on my HDD. How can I access (use) it if will need to? Ideally I planned to install original Vista as a secondary OS.
Thanks very much for all you time and help, I really do appreciate it! -
thank you helikaon for making my XP x64 install super smooth. I installed XP x64 Pro with a disk, then downloaded drivers 1, 3-7, 9, 10 & 12. However, for the Atmel TPM LessMSIerables didn't work for me so I did it through the command prompt via:
http://thebackroomtech.com/2007/08/23/howto-extract-files-from-a-msi-file-using-the-windows-command-line/
I have the 14" display so I used the Intel 965 chipset drivers found here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2800&lang=eng
other than that my comp is running great, no exclamations in the device manager, updates fine, and I'm as happy as can be. thanks again!
Thinkpad T61 - T7300, Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm, 4GB RAM -
Hi all,
i'm glad this thread is still helping people out. On sidenote, i bought a new HDD for my laptop (320gb seagate momentus, 7200rpm, 16mb cache), so i did reinstall my dual boot (linux centos 5.2 with XP x64) all the work took me 1 day.
Anyway even after almost one year, i'm happy about XP x64 on my laptop. -
New here.
1. Thanks helikaon for taking the time to put this together. It's been a great resource for me.
2. Does anyone have the Verizon Wireless (Sierra Wireless MC5725) working? I travel a lot and need my WAN. -
Hi,
have you tried to install driver for 64b vista from lenovo?
If not working, id try to have look at:
http://www.sierrawireless.com/product/mc5725.aspx and write to their support or
http://www.evdoforums.com/ on this forum and ask there?
just thoughts, gl -
helikaon-
I did see those drivers and had already successfully installed them. There is a second piece needed to use the built-in WAN. I was missing the VZAccess Manager.
I found the app I was looking for here:
Click here for the VZAccess Manager
After downloading, running activation & connecting, it now works fine.
Once again, very considerate & helpful thread you have here, thanks. -
Well it seems like this thread isnt getting too much activity anymore, but I'm posting to see if people have been able to get the internal microphone working.
I have a T61 with xp x64. From others posts I seem to have the system working about as well as most. No stray or unknown hardware in device manager.
Audio works fine (have to disable smaxpnp4.exe), but havent been able to get the internal mic working. As far as I can tell, doesnt work in Windows or Linux (Ubuntu 8.10).
Anyone else have experience dealing with this?
Thanks -
My microphone didn't work in Windows 7 x64 beta either. I'm going to reinstall soon and want to try XP x64, so I will come back here then.

Hello everybody,
I am trying to install the driver for the integrated camera driver on my T400. Unfortunately this leads to another problem: when doing a shut down the system just "hangs".
Reading this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992
They mention to install the hotfix Q909667. Unfortunately this hotfix is NOT for XP x64 (driver is for a "...different hardware platform...").
Can anybody help?
Thanks Tai -
The problem with the integrated camera is much simpler: you don't have to install it since the windows driver is working (see device manager>imaging devices>USB Video Device)
.
Now I have another problem: somehow I cannot install the fingerprint software and driver. Neither Vista x64 nor the driver for Vista/XP is working. -
Hi guys, threat is'nt dead, just not many people use this os.
And - i'd dearly like to help you, but my humble one year old R61 is working so far perfectly with the xp x64 and unfortunately i don't have internal camera or microphone on it to run some tests. Latelly, i'm more to linux forums here.
gl&hf -
Holy f'ing crap - thank you.
I know how to identify hardware id's, manually slip drivers from other OS's, and smack comps around a bit - but you guys made my f'ing day!
Thanks to ALL who helped with this information... I HATE hunting down unsupported OS drivers. -
I just put XP x64 on my T61 and this thread was a great resource. I can offer some quick info on a couple quick things I did differently...
For the Atmel TPM driver that everyone has had trouble with... no need to do a manual install, LessMSI the install file (the one right off atmel's site), go into the sourcedir & then temp folder, and just double click on the Installer64 file. Wait a minute or two and its automatically installed.
The fingerprint software link in this thread is the wrong link... the link goes to the 32bit file... the 64bit Vista file is here: Lenovo Support & downloads - Fingerprint Software 5.8.5 for Windows 7 (64-bit), Vista (64-bit) - ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation
I used nLite and migrated the 64bit Intel SATA driver onto my XP x64 installation and installed off AHCI flawlessly.
I have absolutely no problems so far with my notebook. I will post back if I find any bugs. -
What are these display flickers? Can anyone explain me about this..
