Do you use a public server or a proxy server like Websense, etc.
Is the IE in offline mode..??
If not, you might have to tamper with the registry to fix this..!!
Do u have XP or Vista..??

A few easy questions, do you have certain services enabled? Two services that you might need to have started are Background Intelligent Transfer and Task Scheduler. You might also have to have them started automatically (the startup option changed to 'Auto' instead of 'Manual').

The OS that im using is Windows vista.

IE is possible as you can see me posting this reply so i don't think the problem is a connection matter.

What should i do? I really don't have any computer knowledge.

    Run Regedit and navigate to

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]

Select this dword value: "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001" and change the value to 0.

    and reboot....then try update again..!!

just to be on the safe side, copy down the original value..!!

I would suggest creating the \windowsupdate\au key in the right panel and add the registry key/value as described here and see if it fixes the problem

Right-click Windows and select “New Key”. This creates a new folder. Now, Name it as WindowsUpdate. Similarly create AU and then add the said keys in the right-panel and see if it helps.

im still having the same problem.
after i created all the folders from windowsupdate to AU, i added the key value which is “UseWUServer”=dword:00000000 on Default. i restarted my PC but the same thing is happening.
im lost..what should i do now?

Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Service

Start two things: (1) Background Intelligent Transfer (set to Automatic) (2) Task Scheduler (set to Automatic). Restart. Do Windows Update.

    Try that.

How to edit the GPO that disable "specify intranet Microsoft update service location"

    1.Run mmc->File->Add/Remove Snap-in->Find "Group Policy Object Editor"->Add->Local machine->Finish->OK

2.Set the Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Windows Update "specify intranet Microsoft update service location" as not configured.

    3.Update again.

Not sure if it ll work....
