I created the recovery discs for my W510 and would like to wipe the drive completely (including the recovery partition) and install Windows 7 Ultimate. The system shipped with Windows 7 Pro pre-installed.

My question is if I rebuild the system using the restore discs, will the recovery partition be put back onto the drive?

    Thanks for your help.

I believe the recovery discs will put back the recovery partition and from there you can have it restore whatever was shipped with the machine.

Thanks for the info. So is it common for people here to do a full wipe of all partitions and install the OS of their choice?

It depend on if you are you going to use the Lenovo's Recovery software, if you are not going to use their software, it is better to wipe out all the partition and partition the drive you like.
