    Hi guys,

I have bought this second hand machine (XP PRO SP3) from someone. everything is alright with the machine except wifi connection. I can see my wifi network but it can't connect it. i don't know what seems to be the problem. i checked device manager...there is nothing wrong with any drivers.

Can some one please help me ASAP?

NB: I have tried many different drivers but still it is showing me error message. following attachment is that error.

Well, I dont run XP and I'm not a guy. It sounds as if there is a password problem with your physical gateway.

    Here's what you're running into:

You're joining a WEP network, that has a wep password assigned in the AP. The AP uses the WEP password to generate a WEP Key. Different APs use different algorithms to generate a WEP Key from a WEP password. I'd suggest going into the AP and configuring a set wep key with something like:

    BADBEEFBAD (wep 40)
    DEADBEEFCAFE14141414141414 (wep104)

Note, it's not overly important to choose a secure wep key as it is trivial to crack from a sw point of view (mere minutes on a netbook can do it). I'd suggest moving to WPA/WPA2 ASAP.

I should add to this: a wep key is either 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters: A-F,0-9

It depends on what specific Access Point you use.

You could try: CB5A9CF6B6 as your wep key

And if that doesn't work: 2739D84753458146003C5B01F7 as a 104/128 bit wep key.

We need to know: Are you running wep40(64) or wep 104(128)? Is this, in fact, wpa_psk instead of wep? What brand AP are you running? Did you have to use a special client software before?

I didn't think they would work. You could try anything but the probability that it will work is infintesimally small.

What is AP? I am not using any special client software. my network driver was installed as normal. so once i click on it, it shows me all available network in range. then i select mine and put the WEP key (it asks me to put network key). no sooner i put my WEP: cheka123 it gives me the error message which i have already included in my first post in the previous page.

what i can see as Network adapters under device manager is

    Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection

    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter

The AP is the Access Point you're connecting to. Surely you have SOME piece of hardware wired up that your internet connection is wired to. What is the device you're connecting to that's asking for a Network Key?

" so what do u recon me to do?"

I think youre going to have to chance the password in your router or whatever your computer is connecting to. BUT DON"T DO IT BLINDLY. KNOW which other nodes connect to it so you can uptake them quickly after you make the change. Largely, the AP is in the same room with you or in an adjacent room and it will have a physical connection to the net.

When the WEP password is updated, then update the Home Net(part of the control panel), I believe for your machine not to mention your system to acccess the new home net)

Is the AP provided by a corporation such as Verizon or have you supplied it yourself? Who is your povider?
