I've looked around but have yet to find a solution to my problem.

I keep my laptop and PC files synced (using SyncBack) but would like to have it done automatically in the middle of the night instead of having to run it manually. Unfortunately, although I do keep my laptop on all the time the lid is usually closed and it is asleep. Obviously the wireless connection is killed when this happens and there is never a chance for it to sync, nor for my PC to locate it and sync with it.

Is there a way to keep the wireless connection active when the lid is closed and it's plugged in? Or a way to wake it while the lid is closed? I've already unchecked the "Allow computer to turn off...to save power" in device manager but I have yet to see that affects anything regarding my wireless connection, including my sync issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you look in the Advanced Power Options, it lets you set what your PC does when the lid is closed. Default is Sleep. But you can change it to Do Nothing.

I would like the computer to sleep for the most part, but be active when the sync is to occur.

Only thing I can suggest would be to have a separate power profile when you are doing your sync.

Easy to configure and switch before doing the sync.

I don't have my T61 yet (Aug 3rd estimated ship date), but some BIOS let you set a certain time to wake the pc up. Sometimes you can even configure it via software, so you could have your laptop wake up at 3am, sync files and go back to sleep.

Scheduled Tasks is capable of this. Create a new task that runs a program to wake the computer up from sleep. Make sure "wake computer to run this task" is checked in the task properties. You could even create a task that runs a batch file which would initiate the syncing, then issue a command to put the computer back to sleep (although I'm not aware of the command that puts a computer to sleep, I know "shutdown -s" is shutdown).
