I've thoroughly tested this on my z60t.
I have a wired gigabit ethernet connection, and a wireless g connection. When its streaming the same amount of data over the network (at the rate of 120 KBytes/sec), the battery meter always adjusts to a less amount of time left on wired ethernet connection.
Maybe if you had 100mbit or 10mbit connection (or wireless a/b) that it would make a difference. I thought it was interesting enough to share since I had been plugging it in ethernet to extend my battery life.
I have a 1.86 750 processor btw.

Keeping an eye on wattage consumed on the z60m when I had it, wired drew much less power than wireless. Are you disabling the wireless connection when you move to the wired one? Sometimes an idle wireless card can peg as it sends out beacon type signals to find available networks.

The thinkvantage applet automatically switches off when you plug in an ethernet connection, after the connection goes live, and it definitely doesn't scan. You can see the radio is off.
The test goes quick, so try it out for yourself and I'll be interested to hear your results.
I'm just surprised by the results. It could definitely be result of the wired connection I was using (gigabit ethernet). -
the wireless on my T43 does not turn off when I plug a wired connection in.

Mine does. But mine is a z60t.
Wireless uses less battery than wired ethernet
