Well, I got through my fresh install of Windows XP today with my R61, and all seems well EXCEPT for my wireless connection. I followed the instructions to install driver 5.3.0.85 for my a/b/g wireless card and have avoiding installing Access Connections, but after anywhere from a couple seconds to a few minutes of browsing, my connection stops working.

The card continues to show that it is connected to my wireless router (the green light under my monitor is lit and the icon in the system tray shows a connection), but the connection is dead (it shows that I am sending packets--slowly, but not receiving). I can continue to browse from another laptop I own when I'm having the problem with my Lenovo, so it's obviously not a problem with my router. All firewalls are turned off.

I can repair the connection, but it only lasts a few seconds/minutes until I'm back at square one.

I feel like I've tried everything today. I've turned off the "Power Save" mode. I've downloaded and attempted to use Access Connections, I've tried using the "recommended" driver through Windows update (but rolled back to 5.3.0.85), but I'm still having issues.

Any help would be much appreciated.

By the way, I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP3.

I'm using a DLINK DI-624. The firmware is up-to-date, and has worked flawlessly with my two Averatec notebooks (wireless) and my custom desktop PC (wired).

I didn't think I could use the Intel drivers since my wireless card is this:

I did try downloading the Intel wireless card indentifier ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?DwnldID=8061&ProductID=1784), and it reported that I did not have an Intel wireless card installed.

check your wifi settings in power manager. Turn off all power saving wifi features while plugged in

I went a step further and removed Power Manager completely. Unfortunately, it still froze until I repaired my connection. It seems that the minute I start doing anything "intensive" on the net (watch a video, download a file, etc.), it stops working.

I never knew wireless networking to be so touchy.

    No undervolting here.

I'll be calling Lenovo today. I thought I had it working by changing the channel on my router, but I lost the connection downloading an update again. My guess is that it's a faulty card. We'll see how things go today with customer service.

I'm pretty bummed. This is my first Lenovo, and I've been ranting about how good this computer will be to my wife.

I had a similar issue when my automatic Update updated to SP3. Access would could not recognize Wirless Router Network!

    Try this!

You will need to disable the Thinkvantage Access portion and utilize WZC
    (Wireless Zero Configuration)

Method 9: Verify Windows wireless zero configuration
If your notebook cannot make a connection to a wireless network, verify Windows wireless zero configuration. Use the following steps to verify Windows wireless zero configuration.
    Click Start .
    Click Run .
    Type " services.msc " without the quotes.
    Locate Wireless Zero Configuration.
Right click Wireless Zero Configuration .
    Select Properties .
Under Startup type: select Automatic in not selected.
Under Service status: click Start .
    Click OK .
    Close Services.

Thanks, Sircas. I actually had already tried that. Didn't work.

    BUT EXPLAIN THIS...

I ended up messing around with my router, and switched it from WPA to WPA2 security. Result? A perfect connection. I'm currently downloading a big Photoshop update and everything is cruising along swimmingly.

I'm baffled. Any ideas why THIS fixed my problem? I hope I don't have the same issues connecting to other routers.

By the way, I'm using a D-Link DI-624. It's been a GREAT router for me. Never a problem...until the past two days apparently.

I had the same issue with a dell notebook, expect it would only connected to unsecured networks. WEP/WPA = no go. But after a driver update this was fixed.

    strange compatibility issue indeed.
