CES is just around the corner and the T series will get a refresh, what are some of the thing that you wish they impliment on new system?

What I want to see is an 14 IPS screen and decent graphic card on the T430. Everything else for the current gen seem perfect in my eye, maybe a better fit and finish.

Edit: I would also like a reduction of the chin under the screen, I notice how bad it looks when I originally saw it, but it it didn't seem to bother me very much now. I guess I still like to see a reduction since other will notice it.

I think most folks would agree on having a better screen. While I'm not unhappy with the one in my T420 (1600x900) I wouldn't mind having something better. I'd have been willing to pay a bit more for it had it been available. Can't say I'll go through the hassle of retrofitting one, at least not until my 3yr warranty expires...

Yes, a T420 with IPS LCD a la the X220 would be killer.

IPS options across the board would be nice, RGBLED if Lenovo is feeling particularly nice. Higher battery capacities...

    -1080p display
    -better discrete GPU
-quad core (leveraging the configurable TDP of Ivy Bridge)
-70mm and thicker mSATA bay, to allow for larger capacity drives
-ditch the optical drive, and increase battery life
    -USB 3.0

Well, since I currently have a T420, I'll probably wait for the Haswell refresh.

In terms of design, I like it. I think they should just stick to it. Of course, let's hope that Intel's integrated graphics become good enough so that I won't have to buy these with discrete graphics anymore...

    IPS on all.

Higher resolution on all (particularly 12" models).

    Non-janky touchscreen (ala X220 tablet).

Glass touchpad. To date, no manufacturer has come close to Apple's silky-smoothness of their glass touchpad.

Make the T430s awesome by adding slice battery support. I will switch in the bat of an eye. Would make so much sense -- the X220 has a slice option, the T420 has the same physical dock connector as the T420s and has the slice so it can't be hard!

Release an Ultrabay accessory that takes two SSD drives. Isn't the ultrabay 5" x 5" inches? I am fairly sure you can squeeze two SSDs in there, if push comes to shove, caseless. If you ran out of SATA ports, a 2:1 multiplier is 2.70 USD :) SII3723CNU - 2 Port SATA300 port multiplier - Silicon Image - SemiconductorStore.com BTW. Wikipedia claims two 6GBit/s SATA ports and no less than four 3GBIt/s SATA ports for Panther Point.

WAN/WiFi module in half sized PCIe so that the mSATA slot is empty. Here: http://www.option.com/en/products/products/embedded-solutions/gtm671-679/specifications/

Not going to happen so. X230 with 1600x900 screen. Also, a dock that has eGPU built in would be nice.

-Thin display bezel, LG Shuriken style
    -Less plastics used in exterior
    -Thinner design
    -Battery with 1000 recharge cycles
    -Higher res on 12"
-<1.2Kg weight on 12" with 9 cell battery
    OR
Make built in battery on at least 12" and add one slice, not as big a current X220 slice tho, as additional battery.

    13.3"-15" ultrabook with:
    - very slim design
    - no optical drive
    - 2.5" upgradable HDD
    - 2 memory slots (hopefully 16GB total supported)
    - high resolution
    - replaceable battery
    - backlit keyboard

It's Christmas time... so here i go ...

    • X1 keyboard
    • decent screens... with as much resolution as possible (IPS/matte) (look at the rumoured specs of next gen macbooks)
    • good/decent sound, a traditional weakness of thinkpads (look at what HP is going with beats/envy). Sound really has real corporate uses..
    • 4 memory slots
    • [won't happen but...] i 'd like an option where GPU would be fully external, in a dock or something, and (using the thermal footprint left open) the laptop would carry ... 2 CPUs instead.
    • some overclocking abilities for extreme CPUs (i know TPs are not allienwares but some of us, compile junkies, need all the power we can get in a portable fashion)
    • 1 HDMI and 2 DP ports, eSATA, USB3 and lighpeak aka thunderbolt (some could be condensed thru adapters i suppose).
    • more compact/ergonomic power adapters for W class.

Something similar to the X220 with a higher res screen and an Ivy Bridge processor would be the dream laptop for me.
A version without touchpad would be perfect.
And please keep the Thinklight :)
A little thinner and lighter is always welcome of course.

Definitely MXM graphics and without any artificially implemented limitations. I am sick of having the limited options of either buying oversized lumps of plastic from Clevo, or building desktop systems for gaming.

Edit: A 15" T/W series with 16:10 or 4:3 displays would also be awesome. I still can't believe Lenovo currently lags behind a consumer oriented company such as Apple in this regard.

    No. Please! ;)

Apart from that, I'll opt for that matte 4:3 (sigh) high resolution screen on the new X model, as well. Slimmer design and still longer battery life never hurt, either.

    Hmm so many wants.

    Perfect T430s for me:

14" 16:10 IPS Display (of course)
    X1 Keyboard
    Quality speakers (beats or something)
A nice glass touch pad in addition to the track point
No optical drive period, with a 9-cell battery built in
Full size expresscard, USB 3.0, HDMI
A little thinner than the T420s
    Ivy Bridge
Somewhat capable GPU (Like a 6770 or something)

    Ahhh how I can dream

Second the backlit keyboard wish. That's the most important feature I'd like to see, but I know the ThinkPad designers are stubborn about the ThinkLight being adequate, even though it's inferior.

The IPS screen option if its the same $50 upgrade as the X220 would be awesome, I don't want to have to pay $150+ though. I'd also like HDMI and USB 3, I don't think we'll see HDMI. USB 3 is technically in the T420 if you order a Core i7, they need to make that standard across configs.

Oh, a lighter weight and thinner would be great, but honestly that's not at the top of my list.

Why do you think the ThinkLight is inferior? Both solutions light the keyboard, but the latter has the benefit of lighting papers, etc. in the immediate vicinity of the laptop.

I don't really use keyboard lighting very much -- I touch type -- but I do use the ThinkLight when working on nighttime flights for the aforementioned reason.

As long as it is the white LED ThinkLight (the amber ones on my Z61t couldn't light the most pitch dark room). The nice part about ThinkLight, it pretty much only lights up the keyboard and not half the room, but overall backlit keyboards provide more illumination.

I've been using the T4x0s series for a while now and I think my next thinkpad would be T430s/T440s. Stuff I want:

    - 4:3 or 16:10 high resolution screen (at least 1600x1200/ 1920x1200), whether it's IPS/TN I don't really care that much
    - Longer battery life (increase capacity or add option for slice)
    - Further reduce weight to macbook air level.
    - A USB port on the right
    - Place the docking port more towards the back so that it can fit the docking station better.

All of the above, but I would like there to be a 13" variant. I suppose, I could also live with a integrated graphics option.

And since the machines would come with Win 7 or 8, there should be a software - like the ThinkVantage - to enable linking up with the ThinkPad tablet (both Win 8 and Android).

    T430s two wishes:
    -16:10 IPS Screen (As always)
-Lighter, Thinner....(At least compared to the T430..)

IMHO, current-capacity battery would be enough on Ive Bridge(30% longer??). No need to trade weight for battery life anymore.

I don't like bass heavy speakers/headphones either; they drown out voices too much, and VoIP is a key aspect for ThinkPads.

I'm not absolutely sure about IPS; would like some better response times. The FHD on the W520 has a horrible time with response time.

HDMI is a consumer HDTV port. It has little use beyond that. It would be nice to have, but I wouldn't give up either DP or VGA to get it.

Lighter weight is a huge thing for me. Playing around with the Toshiba Z830 makes my X220 feel heavy.

On the topic of Thinklight vs Backlit. Backlit is better for keyboard illumination, but it has little use beyond that. Thinklights illuminate the area around the keyboard as well, and keyboard is lit up adequately. Backlit when done wrong also apparently gives a worse typing experience.

    Coming from a T410i owner:

    - Better screens
    - Higher quality keyboards
    - Quieter fans
    - Less plastic or at least higher grade plastic
    - Dual band Wireless (maybe already exists?)
    - Redesigned touchpad or get rid of it entirely

Most of this will probably be not addressed but it's a wishlist. ;)

If there will be an X230s with 16:10 IPS and a touchpad with physical buttons then I'd replace my current X220 with it.
