I'd just like to let you ThinkPad owners know that if your laptop is still under warranty, you can call Tech Support and they will ship you a free keyboard. It's always good to have a spare keyboard in case anything happens to the original unit.

And you don't have to send in the original keyboard?

Nope, they won't ask for it.

Just say you're missing a couple keys. Although that isn't very ethical. :p

    Thanks for the tip.

I had the letter "i" key pop out, but I put it back in.

It's a company machine though (too bad it was a previous employee's), but the warranty will run out in June.

Is it worth a shot to have a new keyboard sent to me?

The warranty follows the machine and not the owner, so you should be granted a new keyboard.

Is this going to apply even if you dont have accident prevention? Cause to me a worn out keyboard is something they would argue is an accident, because you didnt properly maintain it. Not saying that is true or anything :p

I just had the middle scroll button go wonky and fall off of my x60s. I called Lenovo tech support and they are going to send me a new keyboard but they also noted that I would have to ship back the broken part. Well, I guess I'll see what happens after my replacement gets here.

Everytime we send a machine in to Lenovo's service depot, if a key is missing, they replace the entire keyboard under warranty.

I might have to make use of this ... the keys on my T60 keep falling off. Which is annoying in class.

I got my Thinkpad as a store display model and the "r" would sometimes not register. When I called Lenovo to order a new keyboard (expecting to pay) not only did they send me the keyboard under warranty (no return of the old one) but also updated the warranty start date. Great service I must say.

Our company purchased many Lenovo laptops every year. And since the user think that it's company property, not his, some users misuse the laptops. And I have to deal with the Lenovo tech.

I have couple incidents that the keyboard malfunctioned or key popped out. And when I called tech about the issue, then sent me new keyboard and I don't have to send it back.

If you are under warranty and have keyboard problem, they will send you new one and you don't have to send the old one back.

However, if your keyboard is good working and you call the tech for extra keyboard (yeah, you have to lie to them that it doesn't work), I think that it will be a fraud.

    Confirmed:

I just called tech support and was wondering about this issue. I recieved a replacement keyboard for my x60s today and the lady on the other end said that I did not have to send the old one back. She didn't know this initially and I was on hold for about a minute before she confirmed it.

If you do get a keyboard replacement, you will not find any return shipping documents in the box.

Lenovo isn't the only company to do this. Asus also sent me a new keyboard when I requested one, overnight shipping as well.

I'll probably ask for a keyboard for my X61 in abought a year. It helps when you want to resell the laptop to have a fresh new keyboard.

I wonder if they would replace the palm rest for free too? Not that I need another palm rest...just wondering. :p

It's worth a shot to ask. Asus replaced my palmrest when i sent my laptop in for another matter, even though I didn't request the replacement.
