I was just about to pull the trigger on a new T61. But recently I'm seeing a lot of complaints on this forum about screen quality that are really turning me off to the deal.
How about the WXGA screen in a T61- is this one crappy, too? All the complaints seem to be centered around the higher resolution screens with no mention of just the standard screen.
So T61 owners with a WXGA screen please chime in. How is your display? (And maybe if you know the manufacturer of your panel let us know too).
Damn u lenovo- if there wasn't a ridiculous 15% restocking fee I wouldn't have to be so worried about this.

You've probably read my message about a stuck pixel. Other than that I don't have any problems with the 14.1 WXGA display. I don't use this machine for anything other than email and the web but am very picky about text clarity. Text clarity is fine.
-
I too have the 14.1 WXGA T61. I'm happy with my notebook, including the display. I was a little concerned that the off center display would bother me, but I don't even notice it when I'm using the computer. I first purchased, but then returned, a Dell Inspiron 1420. The build quality on my T61 is way better.

I have the LG 14" WXGA+ and even that is fine despite some of the poor press on this forum.
Good:
- Bright enough
- Crisp & clear text
- Very little sparkle
Not so good:
- Limited viewing angles (only matters if watching a video, but I didn't buy the machine for movies so it's not an issue for me.)
- Some light leakage, but this is really only noticeable when booting or with a black background.
I've seen better screens, but they have all been glossy and none have been 14" WXGA+. This form factor was a must-have for me (I believe it to be the best compromise between size, weight and resolution.)
As long as you're not expecting a simply dazzling display such as on a Sony, I don't think you'll be disappointed, but still YMMV. -
Any 15.4" WXGA users out there care to chime in? So far 14.1" WXGA have no real problems which is good news.
Is it true that WXGA screens are supposed to be brighter than higher res panels or this true only on certain laptops? (eg, Dell D830 specs show more nits on the WXGA and less on the higher res screens). -
wxga+ are supposed to be brighter than normal wxga, but my 14" wxga is bright enough for me. I never really use it outdoors anyways. I am satisified with my screen. The colors seem slightly washed out, but I never really had a dazzling display before, so I have nothing to really compare it too. I do notice that the greens seem more limish colored, other than that I'm happy

I had a terrible experience with a Lenovo T61p. Absolutely the worst LCD I have ever seen. Severe light leakage 1/3 the way up the screen and very dim even in a dark room.
Photographic proof of this was sent to Lenovo who claimed it was within their quality specifications.
My first Lenovo experience dragged on for over 4 months and finally ended with a dispute with the credit company.
I now have the HP 8510w and it was a perfect experience including the bright and brilliant screen. It cost less than the T61p and benchmarks faster as well as being a smaller and lighter package. Newegg has them in stock for $1850 -
Ignore MonsterMaxx. His "facts" are ridiculous.
There are some good threads about the WUXGA screens. Search them... some people hate the screens, some people think they're fine. -
Well ooxxoo, MM may indeed have his own agenda but still, there's no denying there's lots of chatter on the lenovo forum about the screens, a lot of it, not good.
Mine, though, is fine, no complaints at all. -
These personal attacks are idiotic.
FACT: Screen DEFECTIVE, Lenovo says within their specs.

You tell me if you'd be satisfied with this poor quality in a $2500 machine.
LOL, wtf could my agenda be?
Let's see,
agenda 1: buy a computer...
{oh horrors, must be an evil consumer}
getting screwed by lenovo and their unethical business pratices.
agenda 2: buy a computer that's not defective and not getting hosed by an unethical communist chinese company
Enter the HP8510w. Arrived quickly, Priced reasonably, good help from HP's CS on a part I wanted to add, NO DEFECTS.
works as advertised.
I know screwups happen in manufacturing. It's a shame that Lenovo is so unethical they try to stick the customer with the bill for their errors. -
MonsterMaxx
I have already alluded to your agenda in a prior post several weeks ago in which you provided the same litany of complaints.
Seems redundant on my part to repeat same here now, but not on yours, I notice. -
I can get a similarly outfitted Latitude D830 for around the price of the T61 as well. At least Dell has a no questions asked return policy. Lenovo is going to lose potential customers with the outrageous restocking fee of 15%. (Maybe that's how they're keeping costs so low?) Well, I'm back to the drawing board... -

i got mine waived b/c i didnt like the 15" screen and wanted 14'". I had a friendly rep who was in the US..the ones in india tend to stick by the book
Worried about the screen quality!
