I am looking at getting one of the new models when they comes out in august. I have noticed when pricing the older models that lenovo has multiple forms of warranties.. Any advice or recommendation would be appreciated.

If it helps, like everyone else I am not looking to spend a ton of money.
But i dont wanna screw myself over in the end.

I would go with a three year depot warranty without accidental damage for only $119. Consider that many computer repair shops charge $100 an hour plus parts.

Just my personal preference, I almost always skip the warranty. I decided several years back that it rarely makes sense to get them, as they are typically pure profit for the seller, and usually makes a large purchase sting me even worse.

However, if its something you know you will have problems with, or have specific concerns about sometimes it makes sense. For a thinkpad, I don't need one. I just replaced a T23 that was made 7 years ago or something.

If you don't plan to get accidental coverage, you can get the warranty later on -- before your current one expires. That will give you more time to think about it.

If you purchase your machine with an american express card, AMEX will tack on an additional year of coverage.

well, having a three year next business day warranty let´s you just sleep better. especially when you use your notebook for work !

i´d go for a three year warranty. some reading here in the forums show that at least HP is very generous when it comes to a replacement within your warranty time. i have already read a lot of cases when a notebook could not be repaired and if the notebook is not in production anymore, they will offer a replacement notebook thats new, and in most cases way better than the old one you originally purchased. it does not make much sense for the computer industry to "stock" spares for old notebooks too long, since it´s a huge factor of cost.

so maybe getting an updated / new notebook within your warranty time is more than just candy.... three years of warranty makes perfectly sense for me... and if the notebook still ain´t broke after three years it was worth the money :)

If it is your only machine, I'd recommend it. I am a computer student and when my laptop died for the first time (t60 blowing motherboard), I was lost in a few classes and suffered (lost at least a letter grade in one) from not having a laptop.

It's one thing losing it for a week to get repaired, but it's different if it just goes kaput and you have nothing.

I finished my first year and the only problem i've had is burning a music cd properly, so extended the warrant for another year at $150.

in other words, so far so good...extrememly happy with my T61.

A three year warranty at $120 is a steal.
The first year warranty is standard, so baiscally you are paying $60 for years 2 and 3 each. That is just $5/month in years 2 and 3. For protecting a $1000 laptop.

SO worth if for peace of mind knowing that if motherboard/LCD fry, it will be repaired.
If you are accident prone, go for the accidental warranty.

Also note that you should get an extra year of warranty for free - see my sig :D
