Worth getting a Yoga 2 Pro for half the native resolution?

Compared to the Yoga 13, the Yoga 2 Pro is lighter and slimmer with a longer battery life. However, many older programs do not play nice with Windows 8 200% display scaling.

Do you guys think it is wise to get the Yoga 2 Pro and set the display resolution to 1600x900? Since it is a straight pixel doubling, it should not look worse than a native 1600x900 display, right?

I run my Y2P on 1080 and 900, without a issue. I can't tell a downgrade in graphics in those resolutions.

Why not get a Thinkpad Yoga?

I saw in another thread that running at 1080 will get you an extra hour of battery life, and running at 900 will only net an additional 10 minutes or so. I have also been frustrated with the scaling of some applications (particularly Netbeans, where I spend a lot of time each day) at the native resolution, but have put up with it because everything else just looks so damn good :)

Hi, I went to BB yesterday and played with all the 190X1080 native resolution screen PC's from all the manufacturers, then went to the Y2pro and lowered the resolution and compared it to the other screens. The results were that the Y2P just blew away all of the other displays!(specially the text). It still looks better than the other screens! This impressed me so much that I went right to the Lenovo website and ordered my I7 Celmentine version. So if you set it to 1920X1080, the answer, at least to me, would be yes it's worth it. I don't knwo about 1600X900, since I haven't tried that.

The Thinkpad Yoga wont have a QHD screen correct? Then I wouldn't get it.

Has FHD, Digitizer and better build quality. QHD is kinda gimmicky since there are too many pixels to adequately use (imho).

The Thinkpad Yoga has a cool retractable keyboard, which worries me. Sophisticated mechanisms tend to be problematic. Besides, a three-pound tablet will not be comfortable to hold with or without the keyboard. The stand or tent mode will do just fine.

I really wish Lenovo would bring the slimmer and lighter X240 s to the US. That would be a perfect 1080p laptop. :)

Did you read what I posted above? A QHD screen will look better than ANY other screens of lower resolution. So I wouldn't call that a gimmick. I proved it to myself. I can understand if you can't distinguish between screens (some people can't), but I can.
