I had won a Brand New x301 on ebay for $1235 last month with the specs as follows

    1.4 Ghz
    Windows Vista Home Basic
    2 Gb Ram
    128 Gb SSD
    Ultra Thin DVD Writer
    Integrated Webcam and Fingerprint Reader
    Intel wifi 5100 and bluetooth
    3 cell Battery
    Warranty upto 3rd June 2010

I have come across a deal on the microsoft store for x301 for $1035 after taxes with the specs

    1.4 Ghz
    Windows 7 Home premium
    2 Gb Ram
    120 Gb HDD
    Ultra Thin DVD Writer
    Integrated Webcam and Fingerprint Reader
    Intel wifi 5100 and bluetooth
    6 cell Battery
    1 year warranty

Should I sell my laptop on ebay and what is the maximum price I can expect for my system? I have only opened the box and checked the laptop to see if everything is working fine or should I keep the system and it is not worth the time and effort to sell the laptop for the price benefit plus getting new win 7 OS, 6 cell battery and full 1 year warranty but I would be trading 128 gb SSD for 120 gb HDD

No. I think it's a little waste of time. You probably wouldn't be able to make up the $200 difference on eBay, plus your 128GB SSD is certainly more than $200 better value than your 120GB HDD

No. A 128 GB SSD is way more valuable.

AFAIK the Samsung G2 128GB goes for $400 on online stores. The 5200rpm 1.8" is known be very slow. I'd keep the laptop if I was in your position, you'd see a huge difference in performance if you went on and bought the one from MS.

See if the seller accept return (may be some restocking fee, since you opened the box). No one on eBay will pay $1200 for yours (Hey, if you think that the $1035 X301 is a better deal, why wouldn't other think so? Be expected the price to be $200-300 lower, AT LEAST). Then you will have to pay eBay and PayPal fees. You may be better off selling it at some trusted forums.

Btw, the X301 uses 1.8 inch hard disk. They are slow, VERY slow, especially after you have got used to SSD.

I understand you being tempted by W7 and the 6 cell, but I can't recommend the change. Unless you can turn around your existing x301 for $1200+, buy the new x301, AND pick up a decent 1.8" SSD for <$200 - it seems like a bad choice.

You're better off upgrading the battery and/or OS on your existing machine if you feel you need them.

Hi Guys Also for your information my laptop has 1st gen Samsung SSD and not the latest samsung SSD which is very fast as my system was built sometime in may 2009 Also is it worth selling my x301 for say current x200 or new x201/x210 as with the current deals on x200 a fully configured x200 can be had for less than $850

What is the best price I can get for my system right away? Anyone interested the please PM me Thanks

If performance is what you looking for, then the X200 is definitely a good choice (no gaming though, the graphic card, or the lack of, sucks).

I must say that 1.4Ghz CPU, Vista, 1 gen SSD, 6 months warranty and 3 Cell battery make the X301 quite unattractive. But you should still be able to fetch $850 for the X200, if there is what you are looking for and if you don't mind the hassles.

Is x301 be going to be discontinued or is there going to be x302 alongwith x201/x210 ? If it is going to be discontinued then it will affect the resale value pretty bad When I won the x301 on ebay about a month back I thought I had got a great deal as configuring x301 similar to my specs on the lenovo was costing close to $2000 but now I am having second thoughts about whether to keep or dispose the laptop It is a really a lightweight and great laptop and pretty new and not used at all I believe if I am going to get less than the price I paid for the laptop then it is not worth it for me

Why don't you just extend the warranty on your current X301 and buy an additional 6-cell battery for it. It's not worth the hassle of selling and buying the same model. If the current laptop suits your needs (why did you buy it if it doesn't?), then just use it.

What you're experiencing is buyers remorse because you continuously monitor the retail price of your device once purchased. You must know that at the time of your purchase, it was the best price you could get for the item and the prices on these things fall all the time until they are discontinued/replaced by a newer model.

i would keep the laptop if i were you. firstly because of the ssd as mentioned above and secondly, it will save you the cost of all the restocking process and the amount being returned on your paypal. Many things could go wrong during the transit of the laptop. the seller may tell you that you broke the laptop and he wont refund you. keep it and dont return it.

Yes, Chrixx you hit the nail on the head. I have a habit of looking at great deals on the laptops and other electronic items every once in a while. But this time it turned out that the laptop which I thought I bought for a steal a month ago I am able to get the same laptop barring the SSD at a lower price and it was pinching me. But I just love the feel of the laptop and only reason I was thinking of selling and buying a new x301 was the price difference and other benefits of the x301 from MS Store.

But one thing I could vouch for was during my time of purchase I was monitoring the prices of x301 close to 2 months and the price I paid during that time was the least I could get hold of new x301 with SSD. The processor speed is good enough for my requirements. At the time I purchased the laptop x301 with specs similar to mine was retailing at over $1800. So paying 1235$ at the time seemed like a bargain. But after stumbling upon this offer from MS Store I was feeling the pinch. At the moment I would trade my x301 only for x301 with better specs or lower price. Anyways I don't believe I have overpaid for my x301 as less than 6 months ago it was retailing at over $2000.

Well that's technology for you No sooner do you buy a new item it gets outdated very quickly or obsolete. I will be keeping the laptop and using it for next 2 to 3 years. I know it might very well happen if I am able to sell the laptop for the price I bought for and purchased the one from MS Store a month from now MS Store might have a better offer or the laptop might be phased out with a newer model.

Moral of the story - It is a never ending cycle. Once you have made the purchase stick with it for a couple of years or so as inevitably in the technology world something new is bound to come every six months or so. :D

    Sorry for the long post

No offense, but if you have been following the deals on computer, you should have known that $1235 with that spec wasn't really that hot a deal even at the time that you bought it... I had seen a lot of hotter deals for the X301 since last summer. $2000 is probably the suggested retail price, but there were so many Lenovo coupons around that hardly anyone would really pay that much for that spec.

Anyway, X301 is a great machine. But if you are looking for more power within the thin-and-light category, X200 would be a great choice. And if you don't mind the hassles associated with selling, you should be able to cover the cost of X200 (this thing is really really cheap these days) by selling your X301.

No Offence taken. I believe the price I paid for that config was a bargain because I had tried configuring x301 with different specs on Lenovo site by applying the Lenovo coupons and it was not possible to get one for less than $1500 with specs similar to mine. There was even an x301 deal through Amex for $1178 but it was for the base config with 64gb SSD and without the DVD writer. If you factor the prices of 128 gb SSd (plus $170) and the DVD writer ($225) plus taxes you would end up paying close to $1700.

I would also appreciate views from you guys whether the price I paid for x301 with the given specs was fair enough or not?

I really really don't understand what you are trying to do...
after completing the deal, stop dealing with it.
if you'd find something cheaper, i'd feel bad, if not, then good for you but what the heck, that's water under the bridge...

Agreed. You come across as willing to waste money to "save" money. You bought a setup that certainly wasn't a bad deal, be happy with it. The rest of us can't hold your hand and tell you it's ok to have spent some money. Enjoy your purchase!
