I have been playing Max Payne 3 on High settings on my Lenovo Y580 and have noticed some watering in the middle of the screen is this normal???..

Do you guys still have stock driver for the Video Card??.. or have guys updated to the Beta Verde 304.79 Driver??..

BTW- Does the Y580 can be upgraded to 16 GB RAM or not?

Use the search function. A lot of people don't respond to threads about topics that have already been discussed in detail. Just makes the entire forum more cluttered.

Not sure what "watering" is supposed to mean, but driver discussions have taken place several times. Same thing with the ram question.

Or you could just say that all of the benchmarks that Ive seen posted have shown lower scores with the Beta driver than the stock driver. Also some people saying games become unplayable too. Im running the standard driver and its been running just fine but I did a full clean reinstall with a retail Win7 Ultimate iso that I had sitting around also.

    Yes, 16gb ram works fine.

I don't have a Y580, but I've played MP3 on Asus G55 with drivers from LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers and there was nothing wrong with it at all.

I couldn't get Tribes: Ascend to start with the stock drivers, so I switched to beta and haven't had any issues since. Although, as others have pointed out, the beta drivers seem to offer slightly reduced performance (in benchmarks). In my personal experience, Skyrim and BF3 run just fine with the beta drivers on high settings.

I tried the beta drivers and the WEI went down so it's not worth using it. There aren't any changes to gaming as well so no need to use it.

WEI is quite a useless score, as it is a poor benchmark, and often indexes the integrated graphics.

I take WEI scores with a pinch of salt, and would be genuinely surprised if anybody on here (Notebook enthusiast site) didn't.

Even if the WEI scores are not accurate, there aren't any significant changes with the beta driver. But using either drivers will have no problems for Y580.

I looked this up but was a bit lost in what I was reading was out of date.
I have the video driver 295.93.
Vert Sync is on because it's the stock settings. Comp set to high performance and I removed the Lenovo Energy program.
What do you guys do for games like BF3? Did you update the driver?

I tried to update the driver but it says there are no update available when i go to check for updates in the system tray. What does Vsync do?

That's the current driver from Lenovo. There are two beta drivers from Nvidia, but from my experience, they aren't worth updating to. Stick with 295.93 for now. There is no official update.

High performance is fine. A lot of people argue that it doesn't really make a difference because even at balanced, the laptop knows when to use the right amount of power. Who knows?

V sync is vertical sync. Is prevents applications from running at higher frame rates than the refresh rate of your display. If your frames per second go higher than the refresh rate of your display, you get screen tearing. For example, if you display has a refresh rate of 60hz, vsync will prevent your game from running higher than 60fps. For the most part, leaving vsync on is the best option.

As always thanks for your help. I just wanted the best performance for BF3. I am unable to tell a difference with VSync on or off. I also have never experienced tearing with it off. Actually I just looked up tearing I think i did see that possible as something felt off sometimes.
It also has the option "use application 3d setting" that's what it's normally on. What is that? I turned on Vsync in BF3 it still goes higher then 60FPS and the screens on these are 60hrz.

I have my settings set to auto select. Do you leave your settings stock or change anything? I am actually content with how BF3 runs now.

IS there any word on when there will be an ofifcial driver? Pretty absurd that this card has been out for a while now and nvidia doesn't even have 1 official driver for it on their site.

    I agree.

Well, nVidia should really start hauling their , and start bringing drivers out, ESPECIALLY for their $$$ mobile GPU's.

Also, isn't 295.95 the latest version on the official Lenovo website? That is what I am running at the moment.
