Would an LP125WF1 1920x1080 display work with an X220?

The LP125WF1 has recently been released and used in the Dell XPS 12 Convertible, but I wanted to know if anyone here thinks it would work with the X220, given that the model number is so similar to the LP125WH2 used in X220s.

I've managed to find this one from China:

    ȫдøA¿Ç LP125WF1 SPA1 пîÆÁ DELLרÓø߷ÖÆÁ-ÌÔ±¦Íø
Main issues seem to be it comes with a bezel and digitizer installed. The LVDS connector placement also seems different. I also don't know if the X220 uses a dual-channel LVDS connection needed for 1080p displays.

Anyone reckon it's worth a shot?

Nice find! I'm actually interested in doing this myself as well. Have you emailed the seller? All the ones I emailed say that they're out of stock, but they were selling a stock panel with no glass or the multitouch. This guy looks like he just pulled it from a working Dell.
To reply to your question - definitely worth a shot. Worst case - send it back with the 20% restocking fee (I'm assuming, from Google Translate).

    Try it :)

If Apple doesn't make me my retina MBA, I'd love to make myself an FHD x220 or x230.

I like my X220i just the way it is, thank you very much.

It'll be a stretch putting a Dell display into the X220, especially if there's blatant physical differences. It would be beyond awesome if you somehow managed to get it to work, though.

From my research, the display itself is identically sized. Prying off the glass may be difficult.

I may give it shot after Chinese New Year - there's no point ordering now, as it'll just mean I'll be without the cash and if it is in stock, it likely wouldn't be sent until everyone in China gets back to work later in the month. I guess I can hook up the LVDS before attempting to fit it and if it doesn't work, just sell it on eBay.

1080p X220 would be awesome, though.

I wish that I could offer you more than a simple good luck, but if you do go through with this, please keep us updated on if you are successful or not!

I saw it's an IPS panel as well, how does it compare to the quality of the X220 one? (with it being good, but not great in terms of color reproduction)

The different LVDS connector placement may make this physically impossible, or at least require a different cable. Also, the LVDS output and/or cable most likely is/are not dual-link.

As much as many of us would like to see a FHD X220, the odds are, unfortunately, against it :(

Apparently the panel is "out of stock", despite there apparently being 98 in stock according to the page. Unfortunately, this seems to be pretty common on Taobao, so I guess it's just a no go for now :(

The Full HD panel has worse colors (50% sRGB?) compared to the 67% of the standard IPS. On the other hand it's 400 NITS bright. (rather than 250)

Even with crappy color reproduction I'd still pay for a higher res panel for productivity. The X220 isn't made for video editing or graphic design. A 1080p 12.5" panel on the x220 or x230 would be great...then again, I'll just wait for the new X231/x240...or maybe the 14" 2560x1440? X1C 2.0?!? in a nice 13" notebook form factor. As long as the new panels have high res and no screen-door effect I'll pay the premium because IMHO replacing an LCD screen is much riskier than one initially thinks...it is NOT an easily swappable component for the average consumer. I've done it before on older thinkpad laptops and messed withed old monitors (removing AG coating from older dell ultrasharps) and the fail rate can be quite high!!! Just warning ya! Nonetheless this just goes to show that consumer demand/push by intel for higher resolution displays is finally overcoming the manufacturer's use of crap lower res (1366x768, 1600x900) displays in the coming era of video consumption. I can't wait to upgrade to new 1080p or 1440p (PLEASE LENOVO, PLEASE!) thinkpad.

Good color reproduction also affects colors in overall. I hate the colors of my X220 IPS, my X301 is far superior to it.

Swapping the screen on the X220 is extremely simple and straight forward. There isn't actually anything that can go wrong. Unless of course you have 2 left hand or only one hand. :D

It took me 5 minutes to exchange my TN panel for the IPS.
