Would lenovo send me a new display, or do I have to send my whole computer?

My screen has a grainy/sparkle to it. I'd like to take my shot at a new one, but only if they send me a display and let me return the old one. I'm pretty sure this is not going to happen, but has anyone done this? I am not willing to send the computer in for repair because I need it, and I don't know how long it would take. I also would like the option to keep the old one in case the second screen is worse.

I can get used to it, but if I can get a replacement display, might as well.

    Thought?

An LCD is not customer replaceable unit.

It depends on what kind of warranty you have for your T61. If you have the return to depot type, then it's unlikely they would send the part to you to replace yourself. If you have in-home repair, then they would probably do it and send a tech to replace it for you.

As a side note on replacing the LCD yourself, I just put my T60 back together after replacing the hinges and I essentially disassembled to the level required to swap an LCD. FYI, they aren't kidding when they say it's not meant to be replaced by the end user; I consider myself to be *very* technically adept and it was NOT an easy task for me, so be careful what you ask for. You can get yourself in a lot of trouble going in that deep if you're not comfortable with it. ;)

Do you by any chance have the Samsung display? I feel the same way with the Samsung display on my T61 but I really doubt they will be willing to replace it for this "only" reason.

Well that was enough reason for me to forget about it, haha. I've only opened up a laptop once, and if it's that difficult, it's not worth it. The screen isn't terrible.

Yes, I have a Samsung display. (I'm the guy who created the thread about being happy with the Samsung, and you said you wanted to throw yours out the window) I'm still happy with it. The colors and brightness are wonderful. It's just this slight sparkle that I'm not thrilled about. But I'm willing to live with it.

graininess is very difficult to capture on camera. I've seen people try on these forums many times, only to fail.
