Last week, I ordered the IdeaPad Y550 from TheNerds.net. Everything is in tip top shape, and I'm happy. Next thing I know, I stumble upon the same exact model on eBay used, and for a lot cheaper.

I go on the support page of TheNerds.net looking to file a return since I don't need two identical laptops, but it says:

I called TheNerds, but they were closed for customer support. What's worse is that the eBay auction was about to end in thirty minutes. With no luck there, I decide to call Lenovo.

So I call Lenovo, and they basically told me can't take it back either as it's from a reseller. They don't have any information about the order. I take it as it is as I understand from their standpoint.

So here I am sitting at my desk in disbelief that both companies will not take back an unopened BNIB laptop, and at the same time kind of doing the facepalm as you will find out in the next paragraph.

After conversion to CAD from USD + taxes, the laptop from TheNerds.net costed me $1015. The price that the laptop sold for on eBay would've costed me $630 going through the same process. Of course that probably would've went higher if I bidded, but I would've saved at least a couple hundred.

    ARGH!

As a consumer, you should investigate the return policies of the vendors you buy from before you make your purchase.

    Simple as that.

I agree that thenerds.net return policy isn't a good one, but you knew what it was when you bought the laptop. I certainly don't fault Lenovo at all here.

Not much you can do, but just enjoy the laptop you have in your hands!

That's true. I should've checked the return policy first, but this is the first time I've stumbled upon such a predicament. Never imagined I'd be in such an awkward situation.

Nonetheless, I doubt I will have this problem again in the future. I don't buy many laptops from the US, and judging from the way TheNerds.net have not replied to my previous emails before ordering and after + their return policy, I will not be buying from them again.

I kind have needed to rant a little, so thanks for bearing with me.

Many online retailers have their own specific return policies.

But calling Lenovo asking them to take back the laptop? This strikes me as odd. This is like buying a Kenmoore washer from Sears. When Sears wouldn't take it back, you call Kenmore asking Kenmore to take it back.

I'm curious....if they weren't responding to e-mails prior to placing your order, then why did you even order from them in the first place?

I quoted the below in the original post.

They had the cheapest price for the laptop, and I was able to pay with my Canadian CC. I read some of the reviews on ResellerRatings.com and for the most part they were good. They're by no means Newegg, but I guess they could work on the CS part.

Was the laptop specs at eBay the same as the one you bought?
