OK, so I just received my X200, but I noticed that they put in the wrong processor (2.26 GHz) by checking the system properties so obviously I was using it.

Anyway, I had originally placed an order with the P8600, but I had to change the shipping address. The rep. changed the address by canceling my order and resubmit my order with the new shipping address. I hadn't really noticed before, but the processor was switched to the P8400 on the new invoice, everything else is the same as my original order. I hadn't really noticed in part because of the holidays and I was making arrangements of moving.

    The Problem:

I ordered the X200 through CPP so I'm afraid this won't get resolved by getting an exchange, and I'm afraid that I don't have the option of getting a return per CPP policy.

    What should I do now? :( :(

I do not know what CPP is but if you paid for an 8600 and they shipped it with an 8400 they should replace it, regardless of what the sale rep did

But if you did pay less then you will have to talk to them I guess

Talk to Lenovo, they can do a simple motherboard swap for you to a new processor if needed. The CPU are soldered in X-series so they can't just simply swap the CPU.

If you paid for it I'd ask for a refund. If not I'd just leave it. The faster CPU has little value.

I agree with ZaZ, if you paid for it, then ask for a refund. If not, I don't think you should worry about it. The difference between P8400 and P8600 is so little in benchmark, you will definitely not notice any difference in real life situations. Both CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache with only a difference of 140 MHz in clock speed.

(cpubenchmark.net has the P8400 being slightly faster, but I think it's probably just a mistake.)

Here is another thread about P8400 vs. P8600:
