its seems so easy to us.. or at least me... same wattage and everything but i guess its harder than that.

the processor is soldered to the motherboard on the x series i would assume. at least the latest x series, otherwise obviously it would be just that easy.

does anybody know ANYTHING about when lenovo puts out new models, how long it took them between the x200s and the x200 for example? or the x300 and x301? or just a random guess?

I think if they were going to do it they would have done it already. For most of its users the P9000 CPUs have little to no value given it's most likely intended uses.

you know everybody says that the difference between 2.26 and 2.66 even is "negligible" or that you wouldnt be able to notice, but thats really kind of a moot point. it would be faster, even if you didnt notice the difference you would be doing things faster and in the long run you wouldnt be spending as much time sitting around...
thats my opinion. i guess ill just be wondering what the new x series will be like then.

    never. Get a T400s instead.

The next X-series are the X210 and X210s, scheduled in January. At least that's according to the rumor.

People say it's negligible because in the vast majority of cases, you will be bottlenecked by other devices, so you will be "sitting around" just as long. Booting? Bottlenecked by HDD. Application launching? Mostly bottlenecked by HDD. Gaming? Bottlenecked by GPU. The only cases were the CPU speed actually does make a difference is in certain tasks that place a 100% load on the CPU (ie: video format conversion).

I believe the processor is soldered on in the X200, therefore, I would not expect Lenovo to ever put the P9xxx series in the current generation of X200s. As jaakobi noted, the new X-series is due to be released in the January-February time frame.

true true, but in the case of the x200, the hard drive interface isnt any slower than say the t400, is it? i just think if youre going to have an ultraportable with some major processing power you might as well have it as powerful as you can make it. the x200 is the only 3 pound laptop like this, can you imagine what it would be like at 2.8ghz with ssds

True, but while there are some who want a P9000 CPU, I think most don't care. They probably figured it wasn't worth the effort. If it's that important get a P9x00 CPU and do the solder work yourself.

This would be pretty pointless since most users don't run CPU intensive programs, hence Intel SpeedStep would run the processor at 1.0GHz majority of the time. Hence why you won't notice the speed difference btw a 2.0GHz C2D and a 2.8GHz one.

well, i might be doing stuff where i would notice, i probably dont even know lol and just power hungry. what i really need for the stuff im doing (live audio) is an ssd... which i should be researching right now instead of processors cause apparently i know nothing about them. huh :O

There were X61 that were released in certain countries with T9500 processors, so if the P9xxx could be released if there are enough demands for them. But if they haven't released them, then there is no point in waiting for them to appear in the current generation, when the upcoming replacement will come out soon.

The benefit of the P9xxx is that it uses 25 w and has 6 mb of L2 cache, while the T9xxx has 6 mb of cache but is 35 w TDP, and the T8xxx has 25 w and 3 mb of cache.

im aware of this... well not with the x61. but i was thinking of the x200 which was also released occasionally with the t9500.

im just wondering when theyre going to get an ultraportable 13 inch i guess with a full core 2 duo. if they upgraded the x300 to do that then i don think it would be the p8x00 series that would be silly
