I had an older T410s from 2-3 years ago that I could dock without having to open the laptop (waking it). Since I've never used a USB-based dock, is this the same way? Can I connect the USB without opening the lid of the laptop? Or does the X1 Carbon need to be open (awake) in order to handle the USB connection to the dock? Is there like a "wake" or "power on" button on the dock like there is on traditional docks?

Also, how is the USB connection method as a docking solution in terms of reliability? Do you ever lose connection with devices that are connected to the dock? Any caveats or "gotchas" compared to the traditional way of docking?

    Thanks for the feedback!
