Finally got my X1 Carbon and really like the hardware. So thin and light![]()
Ive got the i7 4550/HD 5000 Non Touch, so if you have questions ask![]()
its a special model for students in Germany.
My model has NFC according to the Device Manager, however I dont find the settings. Any ideas where they are located?
Second my model came with Win7 Pro preinstalled, I want to change this to Win8 because of the gestures, faster Boottimes.
Lenovo packed the model with 4 DVDs for upgrading (Nice joke btw), as the X1 has no DVD-Player this is kinda useless.
The manual says the Win 8.1 Key is in the BIOS, can i just load the win8.1 installer and install from usb?
whats the best and most effortless way to upgrade the device?

I'm curios, where did you order from? I ordered the same model as you (20A7005JGE) from lapstars.de but haven't heard from them regarding a shipping date. They just said that Lenovo would launch sometime at the end of march.
If the DVDs are anything like the recovery dvds that shipped with T410´s, you should just be able to copy them to a bootable usb and restore from there, it should work then.
You could use one of the tools from here:
ISO to USB
Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
Microsoft Store -
I ordered from ok1.de . They have nearly all models ready for shipping. Ordered mine on monday and recieved it today. For the non-student prices you have to go to ok2.de
I first thought about the same about making the iso files. But there are 4 CDs, how would i do swapping ? -
Hmm, it depends on how it wants to load the other dvd´s, but i would guess that the first dvd loads a boot system in the ram, and then just copies data from the dvd... Thus you would need to take out the usb and put another dvd on it and then back in... 4 times

I just heard from lapstars.de, they have been unable to deliver the laptop since i choose a package drop box in Denmark, which neither UPS or DHL delivers to. But is sounds like its on its way now
If you manage to recover Win8 using usb´s feel free to write here, otherwise i will do it when i get the laptop -
So I installed the Update via DVD, friend of mine had a portable DVD-player. Its kinda annoying because I had to change the DVD like 10 times. So be prepared for some anger when you do the upgrade.
After the few hours I played with the Win8.1 System I would totally recommend it, things like the fingerprint reader, scrolling or scaling work much better in Win 8.1
