Just heard that this will be available November at a partner event.

Details? Specs?
-
if true, IPS screen with X1 carbon will become true too!
-
The irony of it, I imagine, would be IPS glossy screen... but it may provide for a part number for the LCD panel that may be possible to retrofit.
-
Sorry, but I have very few details. It will be the same form factor as the X1 Carbon (not like the twist), but will be slightly heavier (3.5 pounds) and a little thicker. The webinar from the event where they discussed this will be available shortly (see Live Webinars | LPN | (US)). The 8gb X1 Carbon will also be available later this month.
-
Thanks for the infos
-
Thanks andrubuntu!
Should be a nice alternative for those that want the touch, but still have the X1 Carbon styling.
It might even interest me in canceling my X1 Carbon. On one hand, it could have a nicer IPS display. On the other, it's apparently heavier/thicker, and could be a gloss display. I'll wait to see more details. Anything on the refresh X1 Carbon with the i7/8GB and Win 8? -
There will be something called ThinkPad Helix coming out in the future (annonced in a Lenovo event in Shanghai last week Friday), which has i7 CPU, 1080p resolution IPS in 11.6 inch LCD, with pen digitiser and removable screen that doubles as a tablet (like Surface Pro?)... you didn't hear it from me obviously... LOL
-
this sounds interesting
-
This sounds interesting. I hope the screen is matte. i7 CPU seems like an overkill though.
-
This is indeed an interesting model with the best configurations.
-
The screen has glass surface so it is glossy. Just google for the picture.
-
Here are the pictures. Looks really cool! I am excited about it.

thickness: 11mm (tablet part), up to 3rd i7, 11.6", IPS 1080p, digitizer pen, touch screen, touchpad, 10 hrs battery, NFC, 3G, with a lot of ports.
Seems this is the perfect one! -
The only thing I'd be interested in is the 1080p display then. I guess I'll have to wait and see....
-
Here are some slides where they discuss the X1 Carbon touch:
http://www.partnerinfo.lenovo.com/partners/us/resources/downloads/live/US_Channel_Update_101712.pdf
but very few details so far... -
Thanks for posting that. The issue I had with my X1C was that the screen bezel protruded on it a bit. There is a whole different design for the touch model which shouldn't have the same problem. In addition, it looks better! The only deal breaker would be if it was a glossy display. From the pictures, it looks like an anti-glare like the original X1C.
I was working with a rep to replace my model with a Win 8 X1C, but now I might actually wait until the touch version. I'll wait to find out more information first though.
Edit: I'm not liking what I'm seeing here with the "Infinity Glass" from Lenovo. But then again, this is probably worst case scenario.

The X220 IPS is pretty nice otherwise. I just don't know what we'll get since it likely won't be an IPS display. I hope to find more out soon. -

The coming X1 Carbon Touch screen looks very similar to the previous ThinkPad X1 with its Gorilla Glass sheet. -
Is there any chance it would be a matte, anti-glare finish?
-
In the picture it looks matte.
-
Yes, it does... almost like frosted glass. I noticed it's thicker and heavier.
If one had to speculate, would the Touch use the same TFT display but use the Infinity Glass and digitizer as separate layered assembly? Also, what's the chances that the Touch uses an IPS panel that could be retrofitted to the plain Jane X1 Carbon? -
I'd say chances are high that the X1CT will offer an IPS panel. However, fitting it into the regular X1 Carbon might prove to be problem. After all, you would need to remove that glass first. Even if you are successful at that, I doubt it will fit properly. For all we know, being a Touchscreen and everything, it might be slighty heavier and thicker, therefore not being able to fit into the X1C.
-
It seems that X1 touch is different from the Thinkpad Helix, the former probably just has a touch screen, the latter is more like the Twist but comes with a stylus.
-
The Helix is much like the IdeaPad U1, featuring a dock which adds an i7 processor and makes a full laptop out of it. By removing it from the dock you get a normal Tablet, probably with NVIDIA Tegra.
-
No. The i7 is in the Tablet. In the dock are additional battery-cells.
-
Hm, I guess that's even better then.
-
With this model being released within the next few weeks, I'm surprised there hasn't been any official word about it with the launch of Windows 8. I guess they don't want to spill everything at once. I would at least like to know how the display is so I know whether to wait or get my replacement X1C ordered.
-
I want to know more about this. It's keeping me from hitting the trigger on an X1C.

Some of these makers might be waiting. I am surprised the X1 Carbon Touch wasn't on stage for the NYC Windows 8 launch event. They demo'd the X1 Carbon, but under the context that it was designed for Windows 7, but runs Windows 8 well.
The Yoga got a decent plug.
See http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/presskits/windows/liveevent.aspx -
I think they want to give the plain X1C time to sell. They probably don't want to saturate their lineup with too many new touch win8 models and confuse consumers. I think they're bottom-line models like the Yoga and Twist will be where they'll continue to push for a few weeks before unveiling the touch x1c.
Edit: Is it me or did Lenovo remove the X1C Touch information in the PDF from page 2 of this thread? I know you can find the slides posted on other sites, but I'm just hoping they didn't cancel the model or delay it. Hopefully it's just to prevent people from seeing it early. -
It's not you. I compared the linked version against one I downloaded last week and indeed the X1 Carbon Touch is no longer in the document. Could be cancelled, could be trying to keep it quiet, or could be it's just not ready for consumers.
-
on the other hand, the thinkpad helix seems to be real now
ThinkPad Helix hybrid tablet makes an appearance at Lenovo's Israeli website - Liliputing -
Personally, i think the X1 Carbon with touchscreen is not very useful, so having it in the line up doesn't really do much for the X1 Carbon design. It is better that lenovo skipped X1C Touch and just move to the Helix.

You really want to use Visual Studio or Office at 1920x1080 on a 11" screen?
Helix sounds awesome for a touch device, but that 11" screen is going to be "interesting" for legacy apps. -
that is exactly what I want to try
-
Why not bring both? Helix seems to be not far, as it appeared no the first time on a non-chinese Lenovo Website, as mentioned above : Thinkpad Helix appears on Lenovo's Israeli website, lends hope to a stateside or Euro arrival -- Engadget I suppose it will be on the market on pair with the Microsoft Surface Pro, because they both use the same ULV 10w CPUs from Intel.

Intel has 10W CPU's for their 2012 line up?

I think these are the CPUs, which will be put into the Helix as well as into the Surface Pro. The 17w CPUs are not really good for tablets. -

I'm looking foward to the selection of 1920x1080 11" tablet/laptop hybrids. Very promising for high pixel-density fanatics like me
-
I have not seen this announced anywhere, but i have one ordered through work. Not sure if it has ips panel, but it has multitouch, i7 2GHz, 8Gb, 240Gb SSD
-
Is it already possible to order it? When will it released?
-
I have seen can order in December

According to our account rep, the screen is IPS. But they also said that for months leading up to the X1 Carbon launch and that ended up being false.
I don't think we'll know for sure until Lenovo ships the production units. Supposedly that was going to be December, but I would add the first order date + 60 days to be on the safe side.
-
Hm, I don´t think it will take that long again. Most of the components are now widely available, as the normal X1 Carbon is.
