I too am interested in this. I hated the screen door effect of the X1 Carbon and returned it for the X1 Carbon touch. That screen was just as disappointing, so I've been sitting on the sidelines. Wasn't as wowed as I thought by the Helix, so am now about to pull the trigger on the Sony Vaio Pro 13, but was wondering if anyone knew of a Lenovo X1 Carbon refresh for fall 2013? Miss that keyboard, but definitely don't miss the screen or shoddy build quality of the first batch.

I'm in exactly same boat as you. I'm torn between x230, x1 and Pro 13. However, the Pro 13 keyboard is pretty crap, the X1 is way over-priced and the x230 display is too small! The x240s is rubbish because its limited to 8GB RAM.

If and when a successor comes for the X1, don't expect it before mid-end q1 2014, otherwise we (Lenovo partmers) would have been able to (pre-) order already ...

A relative of mine has the X1 Carbon Touch and I must say that while I was unimpressed with the 2 weeks late delivery, I'm much more impressed than I though I would by the notebook.
The build is great, the weight is nonexistent, the keyboard one of the best on notebooks and I didn't see any screen problems.
Interestingly enogugh a few very useful Tools such as the password manager are not installed Under Windows 8, one has to download it from the Lenovo page.

Had Lenovo reacted with a Haswell 1080p version I would have bought it on the spot in spite of the enormous price premium.
Instead, I'm still waiting for the availability of Samsung Ativ Book 9 plus, Aspire S7 392, Fujitsu L90 or the newly announced Latitude E7000 14.
But I won't wait another 6 months. I find it astounding that a troubled industry in dire need of more turnover isn't capable of bringing haswell notebooks on the market.
As an anti fanboi I may end up purchasing a MacBook if nothing interesting becomes available by the beginning of October.

Just bought the X1 with 256 SSD and loaded. Price was $1600 for labor day with all coupons. Not too bad considering. I too would love to know the next gen and when it will be available. I have 21 days to return with a stocking fee. It has NOT even shipped, but the price was decent and MOST reviews love it. I have 2 W530 and just love it. BUT it is 2 1/2 yrs old and need a new toy

So we have a date. Now will the specs live up to our expectations? This could be the first ultrabook to actually meet all of my requirements.

When they say October 18, do they mean we can actually have it in our hands at that point, or will it still be another month? Then it says there's a refresh coming Q2 2014. Wonder what that's all about. Broadwell maybe? Not sure when that's supposed to be released.

Any new information on this now that the T440S and X240 have been released? My W510 is due for replacement and I would love a X1 Carbon w/a haswell processor and 1080p display.

I know it's not the most reliable source, but a Lenovo live chat representative told me that the new X1 will have pretty much the same specs as the old one (no performance increase, just better battery life due to Haswell), and that it probably won't come out until next year.

Thanks for this! eagerly awaiting the X1 carbon 2 / X240. My x301 will end up a hand-me-down to my brother after some quick refurbishment, and therefore requires a replacement. Although October sounded good, will end up waiting till Jan. Hope there won't be too much of a premium on the new X1s. Getting back to a 14" display (hopefully a better quality one) is quite appealing.

Any additional info on the dock? ;)

Once again, great leak post . I'm still wondering where you get the leak informations all the time ;)

    I have some questions:
    1. Does that information apply for global or just a certain of region or country?

    2. What is the difference between "Estimated Topseller Availabililty" and "Topseller Focus One Pager Estimate" ? Which one is the true availability release date? I will be sad if it is the "Topseller Focus One Pager Estimate" :(. I wish I can see T440/T440s or E340 available for sale in my country before end of december.

Yes: Unike the normal OneLink Dock, there will be more than one monitor output, and generally more ports.

    1. I think this applies to the USA, but likely we will see it at the same time worldwide available.

    2. I think: When the "Estimated Topseller Availability" is reached, than small numbers of the machine start to be available on the market. When the "Focus" is reached, the machines are available in huge numbers and the old gen is discontinued. At the moment, the Topseller Focus is still on the T430 generation.

Not yet, no details other than the OneLink port.

My guess: It will come with FHD, or even QHD (2560x1440) or FHD++ (2880x1620). Considering that this will be Lenovos new "Aspirational Top-of-the-Line Premium Ultrabook". Even the T440s has FHD, and the Yoga 2 Pro has QHD++ (3200x1800).

    thanks for the info.

do you think (or know) if the X1 Carbon 2 will be available in a matte, non-touch version?

i really like the 14" form factor, but i can't stand glossy screens. at the same time, i think it's time the ThinkPads get some quality IPS screens.

    The perfect ultrabook?

Fujitsu Lifebook U904 ultrabook WQHD+ Sharp IGZO

This laptop's 14-inch IGZO display has 2.7 times the resolution of a high-definition television, with 3200×1800 pixels, giving it extraordinary sharpness and great energy savings that let it run for roughly 11.8 hours on battery power(1). Its "ultra-compressed, solid core" construction is tough enough to resist bending while contributing to its low 1.43-kg weight. And it is the first Ultrabook™ to come with a compact palm-vein sensor.

Problem with the X1 Carbon is that they'll put that rubbish keyboard on it. I have an x230- the keyboard was not only rubbish but the function keys (f1 to f11) were nearly falling off because they were so delicate.

Ughhh, thank you so much for this~ I've been waiting for forever for any news on a refreshed x1... I was almost about to just fall for the T440s. I really really want the x1 in haswell! I'd expect it to be a lot better than the 2013 macbook air! Long battery life and the fast charging will make the x1 amazing, I really can't wait *o*

Yeah, I'm waiting for the new Carbon X-1 successor also, I was thinking about getting the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus but I feel like its way overpriced, not to mention I don't think I can live without a trackpoint.
My next laptop I want need a very good screen.

Asked a lenovo rep on the online chat and they said the release date for the x1 carbon 2 is january 2014. I tried to get him to tell me if it was going to have an option for discrete graphics or the new iris integrated graphics but he said they didn't have that info yet. Hopefully they will officially announce it soon.

From what I remember, there should be a i7 Haswell offered, but a lot voltage variant as usual. I didn't see 16GB RAM available, but it seemed 8GB would be the max from Lenovo. On the other hand, I remember it being a 1 dimm so it may be possible to add another 8GB.

There is supposedly 2-3 displays offered including a super high res IPS in line with competitors but it's unclear which will be on the touch or non touch variant. I wouldn't count on a dedicated graphic card. Instead, expect an Intel HD 5000.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

At this point I suggest waiting. Even if you don't plan to buy the new one, the old one will probably see a price drop once new one is out. Personally I think the new one is a huge upgrade.
