    Hi!

I'm planning to buy a new x1 carbon (non-touch) and I think I'm going for the base mode (i5/4GB/128GB). Does anyone knows how much a basic W7 install will take? Is 128GB workable or should I go for a 256GB version?

I'm planning to install linux on it, but I was wondering how well it works with Win8 (not that I'm a fan of it).

    Kind regards,

    Ben

A 128GB SSD is actually 119GB completely blank. It's that new math the drive makers use.

Windows 8 will consume about 12GB.

But keep in mind that it won't arrive with 107GB free. Far from it.

True. The X1 Carbon comes in configurations with 128Gb, 180Gb, 240Gb FDE and 256Gb. I would go for 180Gb as a minimum, especially given the fact that it is *not* upgradable afterwards.
