    Dear all,

It's been a long time I've been here, partly because I have been very happy for a long time with my Lenovo X1 second gen (bought second hand for 600 CAD). Next academic year (Oct 2019–June 2020), I will be granted a research budget of ~1500 pounds, which I could use to update my beloved X1. (I might find other uses for the money, so it's not either update or lose it.) I love the X1's keyboard too much to change model—well, I could get the Extreme, but I'm not sure about the extra weight and heat.

I guess I have two general questions:
1- For those who have updated, how much of a change would it be to go from Gen 2 to Gen 6? I'm wondering whether the difference in ports would allow me to use a GPU docking station. (I already know that I'd have a better battery life and a better screen. What about sound? GPU? Wifi? etc.)
2- For those who are in the know, do you think it's worth waiting for Gen 7?

    Cheers,
    MonPireSire

Probably depends on what you ask of it. Worth is of course highly subjective..

Well, the next X1 Carbon (7th gen) KB is reportedly reducing KB travel.

As noted, it's up to you to decide if spending the money is worthwhile. 6thgen CPU is a fair bit more powerful than previous generations.
