Sounds like a winner to me![]()

Congrats claudione314 hopefully we'll here more and more people receiving their x200!
-
I was suppose to get my x200 today...but UPS shipped it to KY and im in california...so Ill be seeing it on weds...
-
how do u guys feel about the bezel, is it rly that annoying as some ppl report.
Thing with the x200 for me is that it has a bigger keyboard than x61(?), im using a x61 now and it does feel a tad small from time to time. -
I don't think the bezel is so much annoying as it is a personal decision on aesthetics. I personally don't mind it.
-
-
You all bought it at a starting price of $1434? Shouldn't it be $1199?
-
Or if you look at it another way...I paid $165 more than $1199 and received an SSD drive. -
-
X200 owners,
It would seem that the new Montevina chipset is able to significantly accelerate playback of HD-DVD, Blueray and h.264 encoded video material. The level of acceleration available from the X4500 IGP is very good according to reports (though there are some issues with video quality of interlaced source material).
However, in order for the X4500MHD to be able to accelerate playback you need to use the right player software as well as to set a special BIOS setting (PAVP set to Lite, see http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2327142,00.asp )
My question is if you can locate a PAVP-setting in your BIOS and if there is an option of setting it to Lite? -
-
Come on, post more pictures!
How long last the battery life with wifi-on while working? (e.g. wordprocessing, coding) -
Could anybody verify this? Did X200 come with a recovery disc? I didn't open my vinyl package that contains all the documents, but when I called Lenovo, they said they packaged recovery discs. I'm back at my dorm and there's no way to confirm this.
-
-
So if I boot that up, I would be able to recover recovery partition and go back to factory setting for sure right?
I guess there might've been problems with the recovery DVDs that I burnt through Rescue and Recovery program.
Shucks that I'm back at my dorm. I must go back home or wait till Friday to find out.
Is the DVDs in the small vinyl package where all the documents are inside? -
I'm not really sure what the problem is. I burnt 3 DVDs total (one is very small - about 200mb and the other two were about 4gb each): 1) Start up disk 2) Product recovery Disc 1 3) Product recovery Disc 2.
I didn't have any problem when burning those and it loaded as if it's workable CDs when I tried them on Windows Vista.
It just couldn't read when I tried to boot them during startup. Tried F8 to bring up 'USBCD' option as first priority, it didn't read. Went through Rescue and Recovery, it didn't work. I mean it read but it kept saying that it's not a correct disk. I tried all 3, neither of them worked.
Could it be the DVDs or the laptop that's causing the problem?
Doesn't laptop supposed to automatically find external DVD drive? -
IMO, you are doing a "clean install" the hard/inefficient way. The first step is to get your original factory image back. -
Agreed. On startup, press the "ThinkVantage" blue button.
-
I tried the blue button. It led me to Rescue and Recovery. That's where it led me to insert recovery discs.
I deleted the recovery partition using DiskPart which I think completely deleted them.
I don't remember well but I think I tried 'NO' because that was the only option to exit.
I just want to go back to factory setting with recovery partition back for now and then think about doing clean install w/ partition intact. -
-
Strangesweet i thought you were going to do a clean Vista Ultimate install...whats going on now? I am not sure why you are having so much trouble. Are you trying to do a factory restore and have the factory partition still intact now...before you do a clean install? I am not sure what the point is really since you originally wanted Vista Ultimate and the factory recovery was basic for you (or at least my understanding).
Anyways good luck...I am going to probably do a Vista Ultimate install on my x200 once I pick it up tonight. -
I'm trying to see if it will work with original DVD that's supposedly came with the laptop which I didn't know. Or I will wait for the recovery disks that Lenovo sent me earlier today (will probably receive one by end of this week or early next week). -
Is there a site where I can download newest Chipset and Matrix driver? I couldn't find one anywhere. I might be wrong, but I think the one listed at Lenovo X200 driver site chipset is not the same driver.
Seeing these situations, I feel the need to bring back the recovery partition in case of something like this happening in the future.
I'm either thinking of letting computer technician bring back recovery partition (with original DVD that came with the laptop), bring back recovery partition, do a clean install for $60, or first try see if it'll work with the original DVD (since it didn't work with recovery DVDs that I burnt once I go back home and obtain them (currently living at dorm, away from home). -
I heard that if I delete SP1 from Windows Home Basic, I would be able to upgrade (not clean install). I wasn't able to do an upgrade because my Ultimate DVD was not SP1 version.
-
A few things:
To ensure the latest drivers that Lenovo has audited to work properly, simply use the Thinkvantage "system update" program. There is no use in farting around with finding drivers straight from the manufacturers of the different hardware components unless you don't have a social life and need something to keep you busy
To deal with upgrade the factory installation of Vista Basic to Ultimate, save yourself some work and just download and burn an Ultimate SP1 ISO via torrent and use your legitimate key code. This is the same as ordering the official installation media from microsoft, which is free and useless without a legitimate key code.
Or, if you would prefer, use your existing Ultimate DVD and slipstream SP1 to create a new Ultimate SP1 DVD. Here is how:
http://www.labnol.org/software/tuto...1-bootable-windows-vista-dvd-integrated/2750/
As an aside, you should have resisted the all too common urge to do a "clean install" by deleting the factory partitions; they are your friend. Rather, you should use rescue and recovery to aid in the process of customising your system. If you can get your recovery partition back, I suggest the following:
1. Boot into R&R
2. Select the "factory restore" option
3. During this process, you will be asked if you want to do a "custom" factory restore - choose this option.
4. During a "custom" facotry restore, you can choose which extra windows programs to install and which to exclude. You will probably want to exclude trial software, included anti-virus programs, and the thinkvantage utilities that you don't use.
5. You will have a fresh install of (in your case) Vista Basic without any trial software or extra crap that you don't want.
6. Use your Vista Ultimate SP1 DVD to upgrade your Basic installation to Ultimate. This will only add/unlock the additional features of Ultimate and will not otherwise change your newly-cleaned windows installation.
7. Install the programs you actually want (office, PDF reader, etc)
8. Create backup media using R&R to restore your system to this "clean install" state in the future if you need to. This will save you a lot of work if your disk crashes or whatever. -
Thanks for the suggestion.
That sounds like a great plan, only if I can somehow get back the recovery partition. So if I do "custom" factory install, all the drivers are going to be installed right? It's just the matter of choosing bloatwares and ThinkVantage softwares right if I understood correctly?
So as long as I have the recovery partition, I should be safe no matter what happens right (except SSD failure)?
I hope I can bring it back. Obviously, my own-burnt recovery DVDs via R&R didn't work, so I'm going to try with Lenovo's original DVD once I can obtain them.
F8 during startup->Change boot priority to USBCD right? -
Mine came with no disks!!
-
Ya, mine didn't come with any disks. Anyways I took some pictures.
Let me know if you want a picture of anything specific. -
jaredy those are some awesome pictures. You have officially increased my insanity of waiting for the x200 to arrive.
If possible did you purchase the ultrabase? I would love to see some pictures of it during my long agonizing wait. -
I am sorry.
And...
Nope, sorry didn't purchase it. I hope you get yours soon. -
A detailed picture of the bezel (comparison to sth?) would be nice

Exactly.

Yes.
If you can currently boot into R&R, then I think you should do that. Use the restore function from within R&R and use the recovery data DVDs. I believe the startup DVD is only for when R&R itself is gone.Click to expand...
Is there a way to recover without going into R&R? It goes into R&R when I press F8 or blue button. Is it because I installed R&R (only program I installed after I did clean install).Click to expand...Click to expand... -
I tried that F8->USBCD few days ago but I don't know if it's the problem with the recovery DVDs that I burnt or the laptop not detecting my external DVD drive.
Does it supposed to say something after USBCD: _____?
It says Samsung (My SSD) after HHD: Samsung etc etc..
I wasn't able to select an option besides bringing up USBCD to first though. -

jaredy nice pics again! Mind using a Canadian coin now? lol just joking. They're BUILDING MY X200 right now!
You have any complaints with the x200? -
Just received my X200! Man this little computer is awesome. The screen brightness and color (except for black) are comparable to my Macbook Pro. I'm going to sell my MBP as soon as I get my files transferred.
No heat! No fan noise! The screen size is perfect for my needs and the wide bezel is not ugly at all (in fact makes it very classy I feel lol).
I had originally planned to get the Sony Z series, but the fan noise, short battery life and frankenstein look (mishmash of design elements) quickly turned me off.
Photos coming soon. -
can we get a download link for those wallpapers?
-
Which wallpapers?
My thoughts on the screen: The smaller size aside the resolution is fine. But the screen quality itself it nothing to phone home about. I consider it very average or a bit sub-par. The viewing angles aren't great, especially vertically.
But for your word processing and on the go computing it is fine. The LED option in the x200s hopefully will be well worth it. The backlight sort of has a blob area. I have tweaked my screen brightness and contrast a bit. I feel there is a little blue push in the whites. You can adjust the primary colors. -
ya.. basically i'm just going to be coding on this machine like mad... i wish they put the LED in the X200... because the x200s ulv cpu just won't cut it for my sql server and compiling my stupid code. However I got the ultrabase, so once it hits my 24 inch.. i'll be drooling.. and HOPEFULLY I'll figure some way out to do duel 24 inches...

Thanks for all who posted pics. X200 looks very nice
I don't think the wide bevel looks bad at all. I wonder if they could have fit a 13" screen there though... probably not.
I only wish they had one with a normal processor and LED backlight. Something between the X200 and X200s I guess. -

i think they're stored in C:\SWTOOLS -
Just finished my first day of school (college senior). 4 hours in class plus 3 studying at the coffee shop. Used the X200 on and off all day, including taking notes for 3 full lectures.
Result: battery life still says 3:17. Hahahahaha. Ludicrous. But seriously. It kicks *** besides battery. It's fast even when downclocked. It's super easy to type on: nearly silent keys with fantastic feel and travel. Zero noise and complete absence of heat when running in Energy Star mode with screen at 75%. Easily fits on your typical school desk, with room to spare for pens, arms, etc. An eye-turner, too, because "omg it's like so small!" (cheerleader) and "pretty sleek, dude" (pal).
College Neanderthalisms aside... it's a great machine! Methinks I shall write a review. -

Does anyone have any comparision pictures of the x200 with the 4, 6 and 9 cell batteries? about to get one, but interested in knowing the size differences...
-
I don't have separate battery comparison's sorry.
http://jedicore.com/x200/Wallpaper/ for the wallpapers.
Opinion on 9cell: excellent life like claudione314 said. I think it is slightly loose, but definitely tight enough to hold it buy. I am completely comfortable using it as a handle, it just isn't 100% solid in that it does not move at ALL.
I will post a picture with a sheet of paper soon. -
jaredy you're awesome with those picture request, I'll try to help you process these picture request once i receive mine also. First picture will probably be a comparison with a T61.. (aka. i'll be stealing my brother's digital slr and also his T61) lol.
X200 - Have any shipped yet?
