I switched the picture that Supermans posted with red circles to indicate the problem. - January 2, 2009

X200 was making clicking sound when I closed the lid since day 1, but I thought it was supposed to make such noise.

Yesterday, I noticed that the circled part in the picture doesn't look proportional. It looks like the band(?) - part is crooked. When I open the lid fully, I can see the left side of band part coming off a little.

What is the exact name called for that part so I can call Lenovo and ask.

I don't want to send it in. I've had enough problems since day 1. Is there way to possibly get this fixed from local Lenovo authorized centers at no cost?

    What should I do?

It's kind of hard to discern anything from your picture. Lenovo outsources their depot repair to Seletron. I don't know if they allow walk-in service.

I don't have a digital camera with me at the moment so that was the best shot I could take with my cell phone camera.

But there's like a band that supposedly holds the laptop together..

I hope anyone else with X200 can fill in for me.

I found like 30+ warranty centers.

But do I call Lenovo first or do I directly take my laptop to any one of the centers?

Why don't you call them and ask what you do...and it is suppose to click. The latch closing makes a noise when it shuts. And is your picture the cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard...?

I meant it makes clicking sound it's about close to fully open and the little portion of left side of cable pops out.

I'm not sure if it's the cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard, but it's the cable just above blue ThinkVantage button.

It looks normal as long as it's not fully open. When it's about to be fully open, the cable pops out.

I'm not sure the exact term for this. I would like to know so I can call Lenovo or service center to get fixed.

It would be nice if someone else with X200 could take a picture of that particular cable. There's no way to get all black parts focused on a 1.3mp cell phone camera.

I can take some tomorrow...but I believe it is the cable that connects the LCD. You are describing some odd behavior so you should call and ask. Mine doesn't make any noise when fully open nor does the cable popout anymore (it is visible but it is flush against the hinge it is against).

Here Strangesweet, I took a picture of the spot with the lid all the way open so you can see it better. Mine sits flush and doesn't move or click. Sorry to hear about yours having problems, it is rather frustrating since it took so long to get it and we all had high expectations for quality. I think Lenovo built these very fast which caused this issue for you and a few other issues for others. Primarliy they were mainly delayed and sitting in a warehouse for delayed parts such as batteries and cards which were then quickly put in when they arrived. Hence stripped screws on many models because they had to re-open it in a hurry. Hopefully you get this resolved quick;y and they replace this damaged or perhaps just set it correctly as it sounds like it is not installed properly from factory yet still working. That cable I believe is what connects the power to the monitor and is called the "LCD cable connector".

Thank you for the picture Supermans!

Yours looks straightened, but for mine, left side of the cable connector pops out a little while right side stayed the same whenever I open it closed to fully.

Let me know what you are going to do about it as it could potentially be a problem down the road with the metal bending over time..

I think I will try call Lenovo now that I use the exact term and the problems, but since I live in Hawaii, the time difference makes really hard to call. I still haven't gotten extended warranty for the same reason, because I have school from 9:00 - 2:45 everyday. EST is 6 hours faster than Hawaii.

I hope it's something that could be fixed locally.

I was too concerned with school so I didn't wanted to send in my laptop. So I called ThinkPlus EasyServ center today since I'm on winter break.

I don't know about Lenovo phone lines, but anything related to IBM services seem very nice (and they all speak fluent English).

I told them exactly what I have written on this thread and they offered to send me a box for repair and at the same time, gave me an option to drop it off at local repair center (which seems like a very big Lenovo/IBM certified repair and other related materials - server, training, etc). They said it would take 5-7 days in total (not bad because Sony used to take minimum of 2 weeks). They answered every questions clearly. I was very pleased.

I'm going to try call the local shop later because it's 2:00 AM here, but it seems like everything will work out great.

Thank you very much for all the help. I'll keep updating my status of the laptop.

I created a new post because it is different question.

    Question 1:
I ran the recovery disc today (Lenovo sent me the Vista Ultimate version when I have a Windows Basic) and everything runs fine as Ultimate version until now except for some software glitches.

But recovery partition takes up about 19GB instead of what it used to be about 5GB when it was running under Basic version.

Fortunately, I burnt a copy of recovery disc on Rescue and Recovery on the first day I received X200, which contains the Vista Basic.

If I run that set of recovery disc, would I be able to get a partition back to about 5GB? It installs the Windows Vista Basic. I don't want to waste another 2 hours for recovery, so I'm asking for an answer.

    Question 2
When I ran the recovery disc, Vista gave me three log-in options; 1) administration & pw, 2) other user & pw, and 3) fingerprint. Before I ran the recovery disc, I only had fingerprint option. But now it was showing all 3 options. Fingerprint recognized my prints but wouldn't continue because I ran the recovery disc which deleted the old stuffs. Is that normal to have three options? Because I did recovery many times and this is my first time experiencing. I deleted all other options so that there's no log-in option though.

Ok.. update. I received it yesterday. I was supposed to get my laptop back on last week Thursday (according to IBM), but I got it on Monday instead. It took me about 10 days, which is not even close to their ThinkPlus EasyServ estimate of 4 days.

They updated BIOs and checked hardwares (which is not what I asked for, but oh well).... but they didn't fix the LCD cable connector.

They said they replaced the cable, but it still looks same to me. Still doesn't looks right.. and it still pops out.

I was going to do it locally, but they laid off the technician (only one authorized center here)..

That's my story. Not that happy...
