I currently have Dell Latitude D430 but I'm trying to get X200. X200 screen is rated at 200 nit and D430 at 220 nit. How much difference does 20 nit make? Can someone -who's seen both the screens - tell me how they compare brightness wise?

I personally find D430's screen bright and would be happy if X200 was somewhere in par with this.

    Thx.

Meh, chances are, they are the same.
There only a few screen manufacturers (Samsung, LG/Phillps, AU Optronics..) for the entire computer industry. So you may get the same screen in both machines.

The screen on the x200 my be marginally brighter, but it is not a fantastic screen.

If you want a screen that is really bright you should try and get an x200s or x200 Tablet with LED. Both are bright, and the Tablet has an absolutely superior screen (AFFS+, color accurate, great angles, viewable in direct sunlight).

Both X200s and T are out of my budget range.

I mainly use my computer indoors, and during office hours docked with external monitor, so any screen as bright as D430 would do. I don't know much about the technicalities of luminance or nit, but are you inferring that even though X200 is rated 20 nit less it may be marginally brighter than D430?

BTW, I did test X61 (rated 150 nit) and found it to be rather dim compared to my D430.

I misread your earlier post (I thought the D430 was 180 nit). I don't think you'll notice much of a difference, and the screen on the x200 will be adequate for what you need.

I've used an X60s which was 150 nit with no problems although it was a little dim in a bright environment (room with lots of natural light).

I've also used an X61s which was 180 nit. It was marginally brighter.

So from my experience I've determined that even 150 nit brightness is OK as a minimum. Anything more will just increase usability.

I was also worried about the x200 screen but decided to take the plunge. Coming from a glossy MBP, the brightness of the x200 has been more than enough for me. Granted I've only used it in one light setting and I'm not expecting much in the way of outdoor usability. I don't usually sit outside and use a laptop.

Reading the criticism about the screen got me pretty worried and while the vertical viewing angles are nothing to write home about...my head isnt flying all over the place while using my laptop so its not a problem.
