They are just the updated high end of the same series. I was wondering if/when they would show up.

The SU9600 is the same as the SU9400/SU9300 except for raw clock speed (identical TDP, FSB, and cache size).

Similary, the SL9600 is the same as the SL9400 except it's 270MHz faster (identical TDP, FSB, and cache size).

The updgrade price from the xx9400 to the xx9600 model is small enough ($50) that I would generally recommend them for people concerned with performance.

The SU9600 is probably the best choice if you want the lowest energy compsumption/heat production without sacrificing too much performance. It will use less power than the SL9400 due to the lower voltage/TDP.

The SL9600 should be a quite fast part and may even outpace the P8400 due to its larger cache size. Power consumption should be identical to the SL9400.

As always, the processor you require is heavily dependent on your usage. If you mostly do document based work the SU9300 is almost certainly plenty of CPU. But if you run a highly varied workload and plan on keeping the tablet for several years then the SU9600 or SL9600 may be a good investment (depending on your preference for slightly better battery life or performance).

EDIT - I just checked and it appears the same processors are also available for the x200s ( Link). The same opinion stated above applies to both models.

I also checked the x301, but it does not currently list any new processors. I would expect it to offer the SU9600 soon, but that is unconfirmed.

a new X301 topseller model was released with the SU9600.   MTM is 2776-27U.   i expect you'll see this processor as a CTO option soon.

    consider it confirmed. ;)

I had already ordered a X200s with SL9400 a week ago, and I did see the SL9600 a day ago. I called Lenovo today asking if it was available and if it was, if I could change the CPU on my order. The rep told me it was probably a mistake. I asked him why would it be a mistake if it was on there, and if it would come back. He said it would never come back. Those were his words! We'll see about that. But I'll probably get my X200s by then...

FWIW the X200s with SL9600 was +$125 option. I would choose that if I could. Only $50 more than the SL9400.

dang i see. I ordered the x200 tablet with the su9600 but it had a price mistake, lol. I'm hoping that the order goes through and that Lenovo will just honor it. they did make a mistake once with the x200 offering the p8700 and I believe some made an order and had it canceled but remember recalling someone else ordering it and lenovo honored the order. I also saw one x200 on ebay that advertised selling the p8700 on the x200.

I don't think listing the SU9600/SL9600 was a mistake. Those processors should be compatible with the x200s/T and I would expect them to be offered in full force soon. It's possible that Lenovo just doesn't have a large quantity of them yet.

In any case, Lenovo is generally quite good about honoring whatever the website says, even if it's a mistake.

For example, quite a few people got free 64GB Samsung SLC SSDs for the x200 due to a $0 pricing upgrade error when the x200 first came out. Similarly, there are a handful of x200, T400, T500 equipped with the P8700 CPU at the same price as the P8600.

It was actually a negative price upgrade Jon ;). Well for a 128gig SSD...but same difference since I was not expecting any SSD period.

    @ jon

That's good to hear about lenovo honoring orders even if it was a mistake.

    @ jaredy

hehe, yea. I saw that with a quickness. I ordered the 128ssd for negative $88 and the SU9600 for a negative $160, haha. So let's hope it holds up!

The difference though was the ssd error was during the x200 product launch. I wonder if they would quietly make the CPU change go away. I hope not though, for you :p.

guys should I cancel my order and wait until the SL9600 option appears again in May? The announcement on Lenovo.com says product availability in May for the Europe, Africa regions. What about North America?

No. It isn't that significant if you want to use your laptop now...most people really don't even need all the CPU power for the most part.

I wouldn't necessarily wait just for the CPU. However, if you don't need the x200T right now it may be wise to wait a month to see if the price drops a bit and/or other options pop up.

Thanks for comforting me guys. Waiting for the X200s is taking a long time..I was thinking if I were to play a few FPS or RTS games once in awhile the CPU boost would make a little difference. A $50 price increase (if the pricing Lenovo posted temporarily was correct) would be well worth it IMO.

CPU won't really make that big of a difference; you're still stuck with the same graphics. Basic older games are fine.

Very true. The gaming bottleneck on the x200 series will almost always be the x4500 GPU rather than the CPU (even if it's only the 1.2GHz SU9300).

To make things confusing, there are two new model numbers of the X200s that have the 1.2GHz Intel Celeron 723 (single-core) processor and a WXGA CCFL-backlit display.

On the upside, there is one model of the X301 showing the 1.6GHz SU9600....hopefully, it will show up on the option list of the configurable X301 models soon!

This I really do not understand. Why would they offer the x200s (an upscale model) with a pathetic single core Celeron and the WXGA CCFL display. I would have to think the standard x200 would get better battery life and may even be cheaper (not to mention much much faster).

Has anybody heard some news about those new CPU's ? I hope they will appear soon ...

    Im shooting at SL9600.

I guess that they wont offer new CPU's until they sell all existing in stock I think. But whats the problem for them if they can sell them to Europe, Africa and Middle East and not to USA/Canada ... ;(

There are four pre-configured X200t (tablet) models with the 2.13GHz SL9600 processor-

    May 2009 release date
    7450-9RU: SL9600, LED display, 160GB 7200rpm HD
    7450-9SU: SL9600, LED display, 128GB SSD
    7450-2NU: SL9600, CCFL display, 160GB 5400rpm HD

    April 2009 release date
    7453-9RU: SL9600, LED display, 160GB 7200rpm HD

None are shown for the X200s yet...but this is a good sign, I think.
