X200 Won't Turn On

My X200 laptop ran out of battery and shutdown while in standby today, so I plugged it in and let the battery charge for awhile. I then attempted to power it on but the screen remained black even though the Power On light (z with circle) light came on. However, the activity light (cylinder with arrow) remains off, indicating that the computer isn't loading the OS from the HDD and causing the screen to remain black.

Any idea what the problem might be?

 

have you attempted to remove the ram and restart the laptop without the ram, then replace the ram method?

So you can't see the initial Thinkpad boot screen either?

 

Whoa! I did not know this can happen! I would be interested to know why? Also, how and why the method mentioned by lead_org helps? This is not something that should happen under normal circumstances, is it?

 

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to try it when I get home. And no, I can't see the initial ThinkPad boot screen.

BTW, why might the RAM method work? I'm curious as well.

 

Unplug the power cord, remove the battery, press&hold the power button for 20sec. Plug everything back and see what happens.

 

What is that supposed to do?

 

This is called a "Power drain" and it can help discharging all the statics from the crucial components.
Just give it a try.

 

Was there ever a solution to this problem? My T400 is doing the same thing. Help.....

 

Well mine just turned on after leaving it plugged in for 15 minutes. I guess I must have put the computer in standby and the battery drained last night, and so this morning it was super drained.

I tried battery, battery with AC power, and AC power without battery. Nothing would work. Now after being plugged in for 15minutes it works. Almost like the battery needed to charge a little????


But why wouldn't it work with the power cord? Does the T400 need a battery with some power to power up when using the AC cord?
