Hey guys, sorry to bombard this board with my slew of questions, but I'm planning to make a purchase later tonight (before the st. patty's coupon expires) so I just want to make the best purchase possible.

I saw a video on youtube regarding the T400's keyboard and wrist rest flex:

    also...

Can any owners of the X200/X200s owners comment on the flex and construction quality of these models? Does it have the similar keyboard/wrist flex as the T400 or can I expect quality material like in the previous Thinkpad models? I'm trying to purchase the most mobile and durable notebook possible and the X200/X200s has everything I want but I've never actually seen one of these in the wild.

    Thanks!

From what I've heard there is very little (if any) flex anywhere on the laptop. I just ordered mine so I can't verify this quite yet, but from what others have said, the construction of the machine is excellent is all regards. The T400, however, seems to have declined a bit in build quality.

I have both the X200 and X200s. There's absolutely no keyboard nor palmrest flex whatsoever. You should be confident in making a purchase. Both are the best ultraportables I have ever used so far.
One more thing, try to get the 9-cell battery if you can. My X200 lasts 9 hours on the 9-cell and my X200s lasts 13 hours.

Thanks for the reassurance, guys. Zephir, would you personally recommend the X200 or the X200s? I'm personally very conflicted as to if the reduced weight, added battery life, and LED display are worth the extra $500. Do you prefer one model over the other? Thanks again.

You can get both the keyboard and the palm rest to flex if you REALLY push...but under the regular use it is great build quality all around. Some areas of the keyboard aren't quite as reinforced but overall very good.

I prefer the X200s over the X200. I hardly notice the speed difference, and I'm a pretty heavy user (running Adobe Reader, Firefox, Word, Excel, Matlab, and Paint.NET all at the same time while doing reports). What I do notice, however, is the reduced weight of the X200s over the X200, because I'm a very mobile user. The high resolution LED screen of the X200s is definitely a bonus. However, I don't know how good your eyesight is, and I have known quite a few people who believe that the DPI of the 12" WXGA+ screen is too high for them. But if you can tolerate it, you'll appreciate the increase in productivity, since you can do multiple windows side by side. The extra 4-hour of battery life means that I charge the laptop less, and it also means that the life of the battery is prolong (less cycle = longer life). The LED display is about 50% brighter than the display of the X200 on max brightness.
