I want to update my X200s to the latest BIOS v3.05. I currently am using BIOS v3.02 and have a dual boot of WinXP-x86 and Win7-x64.

Can I safely update my BIOS from within WinXP using the BIOS update utility? Lenovo Support states "- *1: If Windows Vista 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD ISO format of this BIOS update." I'm assuming that message is for those systems that only have a single boot 64-bit OS? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend using the bootable CD (a CD-RW is fine) if you have an optical drive available.

I don't have a external CD drive available now. Do you think using the update utility will be okay?

What about updating from TVT System Update?

If really need to use optical drive, I can use my 5.25 optical drive, but need to buy a SATA to USB adapter.

Why not? The only reason you can't use the update utility on a 64-bit OS is because they haven't updated their Windows flashing program to work on a 64-bit OS. So boot into XP 32-bit and flash away.

Yes, I know some people believe in flashing a BIOS from CD, but Windows flashing utilities have been around for years and Lenovo even offers one, so they tested it. Use it.

I'm annoyed they don't get with the times and just offer a USB stick creator for BIOS on machine with only a 64-bit OS. Get with the times. Optical media on a portable is a joke especially an ultraportable. Can we divorce ourselves from a legacy technology already? These "discs" aren't cool anymore and it isn't 1992 anymore.
