The same thing happened when the 4GB SoDIMMs came out. The T61p was listed as 4GB MAX memory.
The same thing is occurring now. 8GB SoDIMMS are being made by Samsung and Dell sucked up most of the supply for their Precision laptop workstations.
See the configurators at Dell for the Precision M4500 at http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=555&fb=1&l=en&oc=MLB1248&s=biz&vw=classic

whoa.... 8 gigs per stick.... with a price to match... i wonder how many would spend extra 4000 dollars on a workstation laptop. That person could just get a W510 or a 8540p with 4 ram slots and with 4 x 4 gigs ram sticks.
-
They seem to only be available for the quad-core processor offerings, too. That would make me think that the X200's chipset won't be able to recognize 16GB of RAM.

%subj% sold out...
So, I finally received my x200 today and I'm very pleased. Warranty expires in Sept 2013. Keyboard is great, I like the fact that it's old style keyboard(not a fan of new ones). Screen is brighter than on my T61, however I'm still not sure what angle I should position it to get most of colors...
I played 2min of 1080p video and CPU was loaded 30% on avg. The temperature was 42C-45C. For comparison the same movie sample I played on my T61 and got 60C on avg, CPU being loaded at 50% on avg. Although latter runs Linux not sure if that matters, I'll see later. I don't hear the fan at all. As soon I'll find a full movie I'll try to see how it handles it.
Next thing is to install linux and see how it performs...
PS: Can't wait for my RAM and Zeroshock III orders to arrive -
Congrats on the machine. It's a little heavyweight. At $600 an change, it offers excellent value.
-
Thank you. I was hesitating, but thanks to this forum I've made my mind and I'm glad I did.
Thanks again. -
What actually were you expecting? You guys act as if a P8400 or P8600 is nothing now a days since the Core "i" is out now, which is totally wrong!
I can't help you out with the screen, but upgrade that baby to windows 7 and have fun!Speaking of which, I don't believe the colors change at any angle on the x200t.
-
Now they don't, but there's always the AFFS mod.

I just got my 8GB of RAM installed on my x200. Works like a charm, no issue, nothing.
Btw if anyone is interested I got them here:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ
Now it's time to hunt some deals on SSD -
lol $180, I paid a little more for my SSD...
-
Yeah have fun extorting that rebate from OCZ. But good deal regardless.
-
-
Nope, but read a little bit other reviews (e.g. Newegg) for other people's comments.
-
How long did it take buy.com to process your order and then ship? (those who got this deal)
-
I've got it pretty fast.
I believe the shipment was 2nd day. It was shipped on 23rd and I've got it on 27th... -
Damn. I ordered last Sunday and it says it is still "processing." Really need this comp asap
-
May be they ran out of stock and trying to find one for you... just guessing.
As far I remember when I ordered it there was a note "usually ships in 1-2 business days" or something like that. I wonder if you could call them. -
They had some kind of holidays all last week, i have the same problem, tho i ordered completely different laptop and from different vendor, placed order on 28th and so far got no confirmation nor cancellation, all I see that since yesterday my laptop is out of stock, tho some other retailers still list one as being available, now I wonder if they all used the same database from the same warehouse or each one of them had their own number of laptops delivered to their warehouses and then put them on sale?.
I just hope they had one reserved for me, since they reserved funds from my credit card, I really really hope I wont be left with out-of-stock notice and order cancellation
Stupid holidays, what kind of holidays those are anyway?!
No order confirmation, other but the one from Amazon Payments, I was assured by Amazon Payments (i bought from other online retailer, Amazon Payments was offered as payment system only, just like Paypal) that my order is processing fine.
We'll see tomorrow or day after tomorrow if they honored our orders and if laptops were reserved for us despite lack of communication and confirmation from sellers
Meh situation, where Im left without available money, so I cant order from any other retailer but cant cancel one either because I have no idea whether my order has been reserved or ignored and it was very good deal so I will wait!

Just got an email saying they ran out of stock...back to the drawing board...
-
sorry to hear that. perhaps it's for the best...
-
Yeah, that sucks, but perhaps soon there will be better models on sale?
Considering that Core 2 Duo ThinkPads are going on sale to clear out stock, X201 could see the same fate when Sandy Bridge laptops come out.
Be patient, just like I was and now Im awaiting for pretty loaded R400 to arrive, got it for under 600$ with shipping to Europe(520$ without shipping), not bad if you ask me for TP with T9400 and WXGA+ screen
I wonder why nobody screamed and yelled on these boards about R400 sale that went on for last two weeks?
Seems to be running out of stock as of now tho. -
Well, you are free to share it, if you see a huge discount...
-
I found it by accident, I decided not to buy X201i because Sandy Bridge is around the corner so I would want Sandy Bridge, but that meant that no laptop for me till summer when more TP models become available with lower prices and more configurations floating around.
I couldnt stand the idea of living without laptop for yet another year and almost went for cheapest laptop models possible so I could have one till I replace it with SB ThinkPad later next year, but then I found this sweet deal using google products search:
R400 7439-E4U
Not sure if its still available, some online shops still list them.
The one I bought it from doesnt list it anymore. -
R400 with T9400 for 600 dollars shipped to Europe is a bargain. Given how much a comparable machine costs in EU.
-
Even if Sandy Bridge is around I wouldn't buy it right after it comes out. It's a pretty big step from prev generation, as far I understood. I would wait a bit and see how things are going, knowing lenovos' history with t61p and nvidia defects, t400's keyboard flex, w510 overheating, some models having CPU whining issue, etc.. + prices may go down a bit..
Bottom line, there is still time...
X200 for $631 on buy.com - good deal?
