I'm trying to purchase a x200 tablet from ebay. (cheaper..) :D
I was looking for a x200 tablet(1.86 Ghrz cpu) with framelesss display with web cam and vista.
I found one and it costs 1999.00 (1.86, 3gb ram, no wwan, web cam, 350gb 5.4k hdd, vista business, no ultra base)
    But I also found 7449 eku (1.86, 4gb ram , att wwan, 160gb 7.2k hdd, web cam + Ultrabase w/ dvd , vista 64bit with MULTI- TOUCH..) for $1700.
    Both are brand new..
I always thought multi touch screen was more expensive than digitizer only screen and it really is from lenovo.com .
    But I wanted frameless screen..
But more expensive multi touch is cheaper than frameless even including ultrabase..
and in addition, I don't care about hdd since i have ssd to put in.

    1. Should I pay more for frameless or buy multi touch for cheaper than framless?

    2. If I buy multi touch screen, will the screen really suck copare to frameless display?

    3. How will the touch screen will look compare to x61 screen? (still better?)

    I'll really appreciate your advice.

jon will probably be able to help you with the screen choice, but after he mentions if one is better or not, just go with what you value more. If a premium is worth the price difference to you, go for it.

I like the frameless screen, but the difference isn't that large. Both the LED frameless and touch screens are of the same type. It's just that the extra touch layer reduces brightness (230 vs. 285 nits) and may introduce a slight bit of additional grain (this is a common problem with tablets).

I would NOT recommend paying more for the frameless display. Personally, I have little desire for touch (I hate fingerprints and find it too imprecise for most uses), and would rather have a little extra brightness. However, in my case the frameless model was less expensive than the touch model.

The touch screen on the x200T will still be far brighter than the x61. However, the quality is subjective. Every screen on the x61 and x200 is FFS and of very high quality. The LED screens on the x200 are far brighter. You could argue that the SXGA+ display on the x61 is better due to its resolution, but I would say every x200 screen is better than the other two x61 screens.

The 7449-EKU model is the most loaded of the x200T topseller models. That is a good price and I suggest you go for 7449-EKU. For comparison, if you were to try and bring the specs of the first model up to the 7449-EKU (WWAN, touch, Ultrabase + DVD±RW, 4GB RAM) you would be looking at $400-700 worth of upgrades.

Also, this pricing discrepancy isn't anything new. Unless you are able to swing the deals and special channels (e.g. Academic pricing) properly through Lenovo; it has always been far cheaper to buy a topseller model of the x200 Tablet from a reseller (e.g. ProVantage) than to spec the same thing out from Lenovo.

I could't resist to buy one with superbright LED screen.
    and I found 7449 88u (1.83, 2gb, superbright LED, Ultrabase DVDRW)
    from provantage.
Still more expensive than 7449 EKU, but cheaper than one I found from ebay.
    Thanks again.

Good. The 7449-88u model is the one I probably would have got myself if I had gone for a topseller config.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but i have a question on the whole frameless vs multitouch scenario.

I'm interested in the X200 Tablet, preferably with the frameless glass- as I feel that the display may be scratched by the tablet pen over use...or am I wrong?

Do the frameless exist with multitouch? Also, I've been reading about 1 finger and 2 finger touch for X200 (MT vs EMT). Does any of these multitouch displays come with frameless?

Will be my first tablet after your guidance. Thanks!

No. The frameless border is only available on Pen-Only displays. All of the touch models have a traditional border.

Both styles will have a protective writing surface, but the frameless one is slightly thicker (and in my opinion easier to write near the edges as there's no bezel).
