Ok im lost lol!
what i want to know is this what upgrades are available for the X200.
Ive searched and the threades are so spread out its not funny lol.
i was allso told that the X200 can not have its cpu upgraded because its embedded?
What the best type of ram to use?(with model numbers lol)
so what screens can you upgrade to? what would be your best choice and what are the model numbers? (people list they upgraded there screens but do not list model numbers lol) Can you upgraded the X200 screen to the multitouch screen? and if so where can you get it?(lol yes i know ebay but there lacking parts)
Did i miss any thing?
well heck im good on up grading clevo and sager and others but im have a real hard time with this notebook. any and all help is appreciated lol

the cpu is soldered on to the motherboard to save the vertical space of having the socket adapter.
What screen?? do you mean by TN or IPS or resolution wise?
No you can't upgrade the screen to multitouch since there is no screen cable been made by Lenovo for the X200 that can allow you to do such a upgrade.
RAM? Any brand is okay, Lenovo source their ram from third party too.
X200 hardware manual is here.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70149 -
You said yourself that the CPU is not upgradable.
You asked about ram and the screen.
Both of which have threads.
For ram most of us just say get whatever is cheap and matches as lead_org said. So just look up the thread on screen upgrades, but do it at your own risk.
But really an SSD is going to be your best performance upgrade that is easily doable. -
well im what im confused about is ive seen post that say the X200s has a camera and the x200 doesnt.
and vice versa.
also im pretty sure i own a regular X200 but when i went to the lenovo site to update all the drivers the site says that my tabelt being a X200 has multitouch. and the x200s does not. im just realy confused lol
but hey thanks for that manual.
as for the screen... i guess i want to know wich would be the best to use period. -
-
i am confused now, you are saying you have x200 and then you say your tablet. Do you have X200, X200s or the X200t???
-
lol bro i am truly sorry i have confused you..
see im a gamer and my sone broke my laptop..he is 2.
so my grandmother thought she would buy me what she deemed to be the best on the market..my IBM LEVONO X200 thinkpad Tablet pc.
again sorry about the confusion. To me it seems IBM reuses its product names over and over again. maybe im wrong but its given me alot of trouble figuring it out. I have searched the ibm site but thats even more confusing lol. -
And i have searched this forum using the search function and the only thing i bring up on screens is a post about a x200 screen dilemma. and thats searching (X200 tablet pc screen upgrades) maybe im not searching with the right criteria.
Same goes for memory.
All im trying to do is to make this thing the best it can be. -
the multitouch is only available on the WXGA screen option, and if you have warranty the upgrade itself will void any remaining warranty that you may have.
-
Okay so you have an x200t.
What are we trying to do here now? You can't really game on the integrated GPUs aside from like starcraft. -
-
1.hard drive- what one would be the best to use?
2.screen upgrade- ID like to have the multitouch capability but if i cant whats the next bet thing?
3.Memory- ok i have 2 gigs of ddr3 in it now.. is that the same as there turbo memory thing ive been reading about? is there a better brand memory out there ?whats the difference between the cheap stuff versus the expensive stuff..what would you use?
4.i understand this isnt a gaming rig but its what im stuck with so i got to make do.. so any thing else you can think of would be nice lol. -
1) Get a good SSD. Great choices are the 2nd Gen Intel x-25M (80GB or 160GB), OCZ Vertex (Indillix Controller, 64/128/256 GB), or a 2nd Gen Samsung (64/128/256 GB). All are good, but I'd probably opt for an 80GB Intel.
2) All of the x200 Tablet displays are good and WXGA. I have the middle option (285 nit LED, non-touch). Please post your machine type and I'll tell you what screen you have. Also, note that two of the pen only displays are "frameless" (have a layer of glass over the entire display) while the touch and new outdoor displays have a plastic bezel.
3) Turbo memory is different and not recommended (counter-productive) if you have an SSD. You most likely have a single 2GB stick of 1066MHz CAS 7 DDR3. I would add another of the same (pick your favorite brand [e.g. Crucial, OCZ, Corsair, Kingston, etc.] as they'll all perform the same). Note that you need a 64-bit OS to address all 4GB.
4) The problem with gaming is the Intel x4500MHD, unfortunately that is the best you can do internally. You can try and get an external GPU that plugs into the Expresscard slot for use when at home with an external monitor. -
Thank you lead_org& jonlumpkin for all the helpful responses and for treating me with respect regardless of what you may or may not have been thinking.
It is members like you to that have the patients to deal with members like me that may know 1 system, but may not know another. Members like you make it worth while to come back. -
Uh... DumbDumb, I think you're being overly defensive here. jaredy is clearly on your side, he was being sarcastic, saying that brunotattaglia was in the wrong to accuse you and also quote your post (since that would keep the serial number in the thread).
Also, generally it would be better forum etiquette to edit your post instead of double or triple posting.
But back on topic:
I think the only upgrade that will give you significant performance gain (although not in gaming) is a HDD to SSD swap - it can be expensive, but it will boost booting and application launch speeds dramatically.
RAM will help, but personally I find that unless you multitask significantly, >2GB of RAM does not really help all too much.
A CPU upgrade will not provide noticeable performance increase, unless you do a lot of CPU-intensive simulation or calculations, or video editing/converting that uses 100% CPU.
With a good SSD, Turbo Memory will actually decrease performance, since while it is faster than HDDs, it is much slower than a good SSD.
As a whole, though, for us to suggest appropriate performance and otherwise upgrades for your X200t, we need to have an idea of what your purposes for the laptop are - gaming (can't do much there), video editing, long basic usage away from an AC outlet, etc etc. -
thanks for the response. ok so ssd is the way to go. what about the screen?
wxga is the multitouch worth it? REALLY SORRY jaredy for jumping the gun there... gosh i feel like a bum now lol. -
Lets keep the thread clean guys, ive deleted several irrelevant posts.
Dumbdumb, you might wanna be careful of posting your serial # information in the future. It might be better if you post your system specs, info by using programs like Everest, CPU-z, GPU-z, etc. -
-
I think the only person to answer your question about the multitouch is you.
Personally for tablet I feel like pen input is enough, but your usage may vary. Also screen quality decreases as you have the additional layers for touch capacity. -
Honestly, if you're into gaming, selling the x200t and getting something other than a Lenovo might be a better solution than all the bandaid upgrades you're about to get yourself into.
That's coming from a guy that used to overclock his hardware to death to squeeze every last FPS out of his PC.
Just a thought... -

These laptops were never built for gaming in mind. I think gaming should be left to bigger laptops with better GPU or desktops.........or just a gaming console. This is why some people always carry a PSP or NDSL with them if they like to play games.

niffcreature ex computer dyke
how about that DIY ViDock in the graphics card and gaming section + external monitor?
-
or maybe just a PS3 or Xbox 360.
X200 upgrades need some advise.
