Can the X200 drive a 1650x1080 monitor without a noticeable increase in fan speed? I've currently got a Sony SZ6 and I would have liked to use my 20" LCD with the docking station, but whenever I switch to external display the fan noticeably revs up and is whiney.

I'm considering the X200 w/ ultrabase, just wondering if I will run into the same issues.

    Thanks

I drove my 1680x1050 Viewsonic 2026wa just fine from the VGA port on my x200. Text was sharp, color was good, and refresh rates were solid (looked very similar to the same monitor via DVI from my desktop w/ 2x Nvidia 7600GT). I noticed no increase in fan noise from driving the external monitor. In my experience the x200 is exceedingly quiet the vast majority of the time, and remains pretty quiet even when the processor is running at tilt for long stretches (Gaming, transcoding, compiling, etc.). The loudest part on the x200 is actually the hard drive, it is almost impossible to hear the fan, even if you put your ear right next to it.

I have a X200 hooked up to a 1920x1200 24in panel over Displayport to DVI adapter. The fan doesn't come up because of the extra load of the larger desktop so you will be fine. Even when it does come up when something CPU-heavy is happening, it's pretty quiet so I wouldn't worry at all!

    I love my X200!!!

i have the x200.. hooked up to two 24inches going 1920 x 1200 each... yes this baby rocks ;)

no noticeable fan noise... by the way

the x200 in my experience has NEVER heat up to the point it's untouchable... at most it'll just be a bit warm... either on the ultrabase or on my bed. fan is really quiet.. i never noticed it being on besides feeling the heat coming out of the vent.

    AznRacerNSX-

I too am looking to drive two 24" monitors at 1920 X 1200 (Dell 2407). I'm thrilled to hear that the x200 can accomplish this through the ultrabase. I assume you purhcased a "Display Port to Single Link DVD-D Monitor Cable" to drive DVI to one monitor and using VGA to the other?

    Is this your setup?

Ya thats what he is using I believe. I don't think the VGA output is very good, though I am going to try another cable.

I have an X200 tablet connected up to an LG 245WP 24" external monitor at 1920 x 1200 resolution. My problem is that the screen seems to flicker and the max resolution I can set it to is 60Hz even though the screen is supposed to support 75Hz. I am currently using an analogue cable as I don't have a HDMI cable (the monitor does support an HDMI cable).

What refresh rate have the people running 24" monitors been able to get out of their X200? Would switching to a HDMI cable make a difference?

HDMI (DisplayPort from Ultrabase w/ adapter) would probably work better on a screen at that resolution. If you have the Ultrabase, I would suggest you buy the adapter (DVI would work as well).

Conversely, if you don't have the ultrabase, it should be possible to get an acceptable signal over VGA. I suggest you go into the Intel graphics utility (ctrl+alt+F12 by default) and see if you can tweak the refresh rates there to improve picture quality.

I am using an IBM 17" 4:3 external monitor via the VGA output directly to the X200 with no display issues.

Make sure that you have the latest drivers and profiles for everything.

Has anyone else been able to run an external monitor at 1920 x 1200 without any screen flicker? The highest refresh rate that I can seem to get is 60Hz but I would like to use 75Hz (which my monitor supports).

My monitor only goes to 60hz so I have not been able to try anything higher. I have no flicker issues. Are you using VGA or the displayport?

I am using VGA at the moment but I have ordered a displayport to HDMI converter so that I can use my HDMI cable on my screen.

I should note that I have very sensitive eyes, so I have my screen brightness set way down (about 9%), and that if I take the brightness up to about 50% I can't notice any flicker any more.
